A small town swimming pool became the latest battleground in the fight to protect women’s spaces as alphabet activists played the victim over a man allegedly undressing in front of girls.
Monday at the Newport, Oregon City Council meeting, the agenda opened the floor for comments from the public after locals had complained about an incident at the Newport Recreation and Aquatic Center. The trouble for the women and girls of the town was their elected officials’s decision to side with the adult man stripping down around the ladies.
“There’s assumptions that people make. If I see you as a predator, and I see you through that lens, because you’re different than me, then I will interpret whatever you do as predatory,” Newport Mayor Jan Kaplan expressed at the close of Monday’s meeting.
The agenda item was prompted by local uproar, including resident Linda Dinerstein who recounted at the meeting, “I personally witnessed a person who appeared to be a man, openly dressing in the women’s locker room. It was later communicated by the rec center that this was a biological female that was in the process of transitioning.”
While the facility denied the physical realities that would have been readily apparent to those witnessing the locker room nudity, Dinerstein expressed, “We do not want our children to see persons of the opposite sex or persons transitioning to the opposite sex undressed or nude.”
Others joined her in speaking out against the rainbow jihad, but community leaders and Oregon law stood in stark contrast to those voicing their concern and told them they could use the private gender-neutral restroom to change if they were uncomfortable.
One man who identified himself as Marci Grace Frederick, the self-described director of a transgenderist nonprofit, expressed concern about being portrayed as a predator at Monday’s meeting, “People here tonight that are sitting in this room have called me a sexual deviant and a predator.”
Similarly, Lincoln County Commissioner Claire Hall, previously Lincoln County Commissioner Bill Hall spoke out against the uproar as he told KATU, “It saddens me that apparently a few people in the community have been able to stir up a frenzy, and I really feel it’s an attempt to target the bodies and identities of transgender women.”
In his own statement to KOIN, Newport Parks and Recreation Director Michael Cavanaugh also sided with the alphabet movement, disregarding safety concerns from women and children not wishing to be exposed to male nudity.
“Public spaces are for everyone and the City works diligently to ensure they are inclusive, accessible, and safe,” he contended. “Our city is diverse, vibrant, and flourishing because of the many people who that live and work here. The City of Newport and Newport Parks and Recreation will not tolerate discrimination, harassment, or violence toward any patrons or staff.”
As it happened, the current mayor of Newport was appointed to finish out the term of previous Mayor Dean Sawyer who OPB reported was made to resign after his posts in a private Facebook community, that mocked leftists and their causes with memes that included jokes about Bud Light, became public.
