Michael Cohen, convicted perjurer, just admitted to a massive felony. So, what crime did he commit this time?
Cohen was testifying for Alvin Bragg’s sham hush money trial on May 20.
On his third day on the witness stand, Trump’s former associate and self-proclaimed “fixer” callously admitted that he robbed the former president during the cross-examination from defense lawyer Todd Blanche.
“You did steal from the Trump Organization based upon the expected reimbursement from Red Finch?” asked Blanche.
Trump’s former lawyer confessed: “Yes, sir.”
Cohen, during his testimony, confessed that in 2017, he asked the company’s CFO Allen Weisselberg $50,000 to reimburse tech firm RedFinch, which they hired to artificially manipulate Trump’s ranking on polls.
He claimed that when Trump failed to pay the bill, he gave the tech company $20,000 and requested a $50,000 reimbursement from the Trump organization, pocketing a $30,000 difference.
When asked why he had done it, Cohen replied: “I was angered because of the reduction in the bonus and so I just felt like it was self-help.”
“And again $130,000 to have my bonus cut by two-thirds was very upsetting to say the least.”
He said that he regularly receives a $150,000 annual bonus. However, he only received $50,000 that year.
Blanche continued, “Have you paid back The Trump Organization the money you stole from them?”
Cohen answered, “No, sir.”
The defense lawyer then questioned Cohen if he had pleaded guilty to larceny; the convicted perjurer confirmed that he had not.
Eric Trump, the son of President Trump, who joins his father on the trial, wrote on X, “This just got interesting: Michael Cohen is now admitting to stealing money from our company.”
Meanwhile, CNN senior legal analyst Elie Honig weighed in on Cohen’s explosive confession, saying that Trump’s former lawyer had committed more serious crimes than the ongoing hush money trial.
“The fact that he was never charged with larceny is important because stealing $60,000 through fraud is more serious of a crime than falsifying business records,” Honig said.
Aside from stealing from the Trump Organization, Cohen also earlier admitted that he falsified invoices for the reimbursements and Trump’s alleged push to silence Stormy Daniels. However, the former president since then vehemently denied the accusations and blasted Bragg and Biden for weaponizing the law against him.
Judge Juan Merchan told the court that he believes the trial will conclude on May 28, Tuesday, after Memorial Day.
