The prosecution in the Trump hush money trial on Monday rested its case, and the defense team began presenting its case.
Robert Costello, a former legal adviser for former President Trump, was the second defense witness and will resume testimony Tuesday.
Trump faces 34 felony counts of allegedly falsifying business records to conceal in the closing stages of his 2016 presidential campaign a hush money payment to porn actress Stormy Daniels about an alleged sexual encounter with him.
After more than four weeks of testimony about sex, money, tabloid machinations and the details of Trump’s company record-keeping, jurors could begin deliberating as soon as next week to decide whether Trump is guilty.
Trump has pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutors will have have an opportunity to call rebuttal witnesses once Trump’s witnesses are done. The judge, citing scheduling issues, said he expects closing arguments to happen May 28, the Tuesday after Memorial
