Georgia Republican Rep. Rich McCormick and his oncologist spouse, Dr. Debra Miller, have separated for the second time in less than two years of congressional service and twelve years of matrimony.Â
On May 3, McCormick initiated the filing of the case. As exclusively reported by DailyMail.com, a mutual restraining order was also filed, as The Daily Mail reported.
Miller, his second wife, and McCormick, both 55 years old, reside in Suwanee, Georgia, and have seven children together. Miller texted DailyMail.com an assurance that he would not divulge the reason for the divorce when questioned about it.
Political PDA
McCormick was frequently observed behaving excessively cordially toward Beth Van Duyne, a Republican woman representative from Texas, according to sources on Capitol Hill.
During the weekly Republican Study Committee lunch within the last three to four months, one GOP member reported seeing McCormick and Van Duyne, 53, “holding hands under the table.” Additionally, they saw him “grab the small of her back” while voting on the House floor.
Beth and he were holding hands, according to two eyewitnesses, one of whom observed the couple as they were leaving the polling station.
The two were also observed laughing together while viewing Biden’s State of the Union address on March 7. A tender moment between the two was documented on camera; McCormick even extended his hand to touch Van Duyne’s arm gently.
Lawmaker’s Comments
“You should ask Rich and his colleague,” Miller, who is about to become his ex-wife, responded when asked whether the divorce was related to an alleged affair he might have had with a colleague.
At night, as a third witness exited the Longworth Office building, they observed Van Duyne grasping McCormick’s arm, according to information obtained by DailyMail.com.
Twelve years ago, Van Duyne and her ex-husband separated; they had been married for seventeen years. They share two children.
Reporters were informed by a McCormick spokesperson that the congressman and Dr. Miller have been separated for a significant period of time, in response to an inquiry regarding the amicable conduct and the divorce. He continues to maintain the privacy of his personal life and has refrained from bringing it into the forefront of the media.
Since the Christmas season, McCormick and his wife have been spotted in public together. Regarding Mother’s Day, however, he neglected to mention her in a recent X tribute.
McCormick’s Background
As well as being an emergency room physician at Georgia’s Gwinnett Medical Center, McCormick served as an aviator for the Marine Corps and the Navy for over two decades.
He is in his first term in Congress, having been sworn in in January 2023. He ran unsuccessfully for Georgia’s 7th District in 2020 against Democrat Carolyn Bordeaux.
For “promoting false narratives regarding the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack on Israel and for calling for the destruction of the state of Israel,” McCormick was the primary author of a censure resolution in November against Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Michigan.
