Police are commending a Florida resident who fatally stabbed a home intruder after the suspect shot his wife.
Officers from the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call in Avon Park on Thursday following a violent confrontation at a residence, as reported by Fox 13 Tampa Bay.
Lindsey Glenn, a 62-year-old former convict with a record of a dozen felonies, used a ruse to deceive a 69-year-old couple into allowing him into their home on Joe Hilton Street.
Once inside, Glenn allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot the woman in the face, causing severe injuries.
Witnessing the attack on his wife, the husband grabbed a garden knife and repeatedly stabbed Glenn with the 7-inch blade.
The injured woman managed to stumble out of the house and onto a neighbor’s porch, bleeding profusely.
She is currently in stable condition at a trauma center. The husband was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital and released, according to police.
Sheriff Paul Blackman stated in a video update that Glenn was “cut to pieces” and “very much deceased” by the time authorities arrived.
“I commend the male victim for his bravery and quick action in defending his wife and their home,” Blackman said in the video. “We will pray for his wife’s fast and full recovery.”
Glenn had previously served at least six prison sentences for burglary and robbery charges.
The investigation is still active and ongoing.
