Vice President Kamala Harris has accepted an offer to participate in a vice-presidential debate hosted by CBS News, a friendly network.
“The Biden campaign informed CBS News it had accepted the network’s invitation to participate in a vice presidential debate in studio on either … July 23 or August 13,” according to CNN.
In accepting this request, Harris rejected a similar offer from Fox News. Former President Donald Trump revealed the offer in a Truth Social post published Friday afternoon.
“On behalf of the future Vice President of the United States, who I have not yet chosen, we hereby accept the Fox Vice Presidential Debate, hopefully at Virginia State University, the first Historically Black College or University to host a Debate – Date to be determined. I urge Vice President Kamala Harris to agree to this. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” the post read.

The Fox News debate would have reportedly been moderated by network hosts Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum.
“Despite not having a Democratic debate in 2016/2020, FOX News was able to secure town halls with Democratic candidates such as: Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, Pete Buttigieg, Julian Castro, Amy Klobuchar and Kirsten Gillibrand,” Fox News wrote in a letter to the Trump and Biden campaigns.
“In recognition of FOX News Media’s capabilities and reputation, we cordially extend an invitation to all concerned parties to discuss our proposal,” the letter continued.
Why bring up the 2016/2020 debates? Because in turning down Fox News’ request, the Biden campaign pointed to the network’s past record.
Biden campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon specifically said that any 2024 presidential/vice-presidential debates “should be hosted by any broadcast organization that hosted a Republican Primary debate in 2016 in which Donald Trump participated, and a Democratic primary debate in 2020 in which President Biden participated – so neither campaign can assert that the sponsoring organization is obviously unacceptable.”
This is relevant because “[i]n the 2020 campaign cycle, the Democratic National Committee said Fox News would not host any Democratic primary debates,” according to CNN.
Of course, all of this is contingent on Trump first picking a VP. In an interview Thursday with Milwaukee news station WTMJ, Trump for his part said there was a “pretty good chance” he’d pick a VP at the Republican National Convention in July.
“I don’t say anything’s a 100%, but you’re getting pretty close. I’ll be doing it in Milwaukee,” he said.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump Jr. told Sen. J.D. Vance this Thursday on Trump’s “Triggered” podcast that “we should choose [a VP] sooner than later, because I wanted that to be out there right now.”
Vance, whom Trump Jr. would like to see as a VP, said for his part that he’d accept the job if asked.
“I want to help your dad however I can,” he said. “Certainly, if he asked me, I want to help him.”
In separate news, in addition to rejecting Fox News’ offer for a VP debate, the Biden campaign has also rejected an offer from NBC News and Telemundo for an additional presidential debate.
Like the Fox News offer, Trump announced the latter offer on Truth Social.
“I have accepted a fourth Presidential Debate against Crooked Joe Biden, this time with NBC & Telemundo,” he wrote Friday afternoon. “It is important as Republicans that we WIN with our Great Hispanic Community, who Biden has devastated with Crippling Inflation, High Gas Prices, Crime in our Streets, and Border Chaos.”

Biden’s campaign responded to this offer by crying foul.
“The debate about debates is over,” a Biden campaign official told NBC News. “No more games.”
Yet critics say the only campaign that’s been playing games is Biden’s, which they say has effectively rigged the presidential debates. The campaign rigged it, they say, by secretly colluding with CNN to piece together debate plans that strongly favor President Joe Biden.
The plans call for left-wing CNN hosts like Jake Tapper to host the debate. They also call for there to be no live audience.
With CNN moderating, is it even a debate?
It seems like it should be called something else.
It’d be a far more accurate description of CNN’s intentions to call it something like:
