Former President Donald Trump told Scripps News’s Charles Benson on Wednesday that there’s a “good chance” he’ll announce his pick of a running mate for 2024 at the GOP Convention in July.
“That’s probably a pretty good chance, I would say,” he answered when Benson asked whether he would make the announcement in Milwaukee. “I don’t say anything’s 100 percent, but you’re getting pretty close. I’ll be doing it in Milwaukee, we’ll be — we’re gonna have a great time.”
His list of contenders is still pretty long and includes North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott, New York Rep. Elise Stefanik, and Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio, among others.
Milwaukee is in the swing state of Wisconsin, which Trump hopes to win this time around after narrowly losing it in 2020.
Many nominees choose running mates from swing states, but the only ones on Trump’s list that fit that bill is Vance.
His choice in 2020, Mike Pence, came from the red state of Indiana, however, and Biden’s VP Kamala Harris was from California–probably the surest bet Democrats have of a win.
