It took a few days to get there, but Trump’s defense team finally discredited former Trump fixer Michael Cohen.
Todd Blanche did an exceptional job of lulling Cohen to sleep, then landing several knockout blows in the final few minutes of his cross-examination.
After two days of the mainstream media gushing over Cohen, they were all left with their mouths hanging open when Blanche proved that Cohen was just a liar out to protect his interests.
Down for the Count
There were several key interactions where Blanche was able to get Cohen to trip himself up, but I want to concentrate on the exchange regarding the alleged hush-money call.
Blanche started by showing the jury a text that was exchanged between Cohen and Keith Schiller at 8:14 p.m. regarding some harassing phone calls that Cohen had been receiving (there was another text prior to that at 7:48 p.m.).
Cohen was forwarding information to Schiller because the individual harassing him had forgotten to block their number on one of the calls.
Cohen also called Schiller at 8:02 p.m., which is key because this was the time frame during which Cohen said he had been talking to Trump about the hush money.
Blanche stated, “You lied about this. You said you didn’t remember the harassing phone calls – now you claim that in the one minute and 36 seconds call you spoke about the harasser and Stormy Daniels.”
Blanche then referred to a chart that prosecutors had produced, which conveniently did not include the Schiller texts.
When Cohen answered, he stated that he was telling the truth as far as he knew based on the documents prosecutors had supplied.
Blanche then confirmed that Cohen testified based on those documents, not from Cohen’s actual memory.
As far as many legal experts were concerned, that was game, set, and match in terms of planting a seed of doubt in the jurors’ minds regarding the credibility of Michael Cohen.
