On Thursday, Vladimir Putin flew to China to meet with the leader of China, Xi Jinping. Whilst it has been clear that Russia and China’s relationship has been strengthening over the past decade, this meeting left no doubt as to how close the two countries actually are (or at least how close they want to be perceived as being).
Knowing that the West would be closely watching, Xi and Putin ensured that they provided enough unsubtle clues to leave geopolitical viewers worried
Firstly, both men were closely followed by security guards holding their country’s nuclear footballs.
But most extraordinary of all was when the two men parted ways. President Xi embraced Putin, giving him a big farewell hug. This may seem trivial but hugging is rare in Chinese culture, especially for heads of state.
This was a clear sign to make the US deep state sit up and panic. The two countries wanted the world to know that the US will no longer dominate in global affairs. It’s now a strengthening BRICS+ versus a weakening West.
After the meeting concluded, the two countries issued a long 7,000 word joint statement outlining their shared views on geopolitical issues.
