The Daily Mail has reported that a Republican congressman is seeking a divorce following an alleged affair.Â
According to the newspaper, 55-year-old Georgia Rep. Rich McCormick filed for divorce earlier this month from Dr. Debra Miller, his wife of 12 years.
Congressman said to have “cozy” relationship with fellow lawmaker
Miller, with whom McCormick has seven children, told the Daily Mail in text exchange that she does not expect her husband to “be forthcoming” about the reason for their split.
When asked whether her husband had been unfaithful, the physician responded by writing, “You should ask Rich and his colleague.”
The colleague in question appears to be 53-year-old Texas Republican Rep. Beth Van Duyne, someone the Daily Mail describes as having a “cozy” relationship with McCormick.
One GOP House member was quoted as saying that the pair were spotted “holding hands under the table” at a Republican Study Committee lunch.
Spokesperson: McCormick has “been separated for quite some time”
The Republican lawmaker also claimed to have witnessed McCormick grab Van Duyne by “the small of her back” on the House floor.
What’s more, two other unnamed figures reportedly observed McCormick and Van Duyne holding hands following votes.
Meanwhile, the Daily Mail asserted that the pair “could be seen sitting and laughing together” as President Joe Biden delivered his State of the Union address on March 7.
A McCormick spokesperson told the newspaper, “Congressman McCormick and Dr. Miller have been separated for quite some time. He has kept that private and will continue to keep his personal life out of the media spotlight.”
Miller did not appear in Mother’s Day photo
The Daily Mail noted that although McCormick was photographed with his wife at Christmas, she was noticeably absent from a social media post he put out in celebration of Mother’s Day.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible moms out there! Today, I want to give a special shoutout to my own mom. As a single mother, she showed me the true meaning of hard work and determination.

“Today, I want to give a special shoutout to my own mom,” McCormick wrote above a picture which featured his mother and children.
“She taught me to never settle for mediocrity and to always strive for greatness. Thank you, mom, for all your sacrifices and for shaping me into the person I am today,” he added.
