Disney-owned Marvel Studios is aggressively pursuing the identity of a leaker who posted footage from “Captain America: Brave New World.”
An image from the troubled film, which has been bumped and rescheduled from a May release this year to Valentine’s Day 2025, was posted by the Instagram account @canwegetsometoast.
Marvel’s vice president of Global Security & Content Protection, Matthew Slatoff, reportedly subpoenaed Instagram for the identity of who is behind the social media account, according to Variety.

Slatoff filed the subpoena request on May 7 in U.S. District Court California Northern District in San Jose, requesting the person’s identity to “identify an alleged infringer (or infringers) using the handle @canwegetsometoast who published a copyrighted image from an upcoming Marvel Studios motion picture, ‘Captain America: Brave New World,’ without authorization.”

A senior paralegal at the Walt Disney Co. had reportedly informed Instagram on April 30 about the use of the copyrighted image in an Instagram Story.
According to Variety:
The anonymous user or users behind the @canwegetsometoast Instagram last year had correctly revealed that the fourth “Captain America” movie would be retitled “Captain America: Brave New World” one month before the change was announced, according to a report by piracy-news site TorrentFreak, which previously reported on Marvel’s Instagram subpoena request.
“The movie studio hasn’t always responded to leaks with such intensity, and the CanWeGetSomeToast account regularly shares leaks from Marvel and non-Marvel films on Instagram and Twitter without much reaction,” The Wrap noted about the account that boasts only a little more than 16,000 followers.
In another mistimed leak of sorts, months before the scheduled debut of the movie, McDonald’s ended up releasing toys from the production in its Happy Meals.
