This week, Michael Cohen, Donald Trump’s former fixer, took the stand in the Trump hush-money case.
Cohen was clearly on his best behavior to make an impression on the jury.
But he also dropped a bit of a bombshell, which will not be a good look for Trump.
Tainted
Cohen has admittedly perjured himself before, so it will be a tough sell for the jury to buy him as the sole source for many of these allegations against Trump, but that is Bragg’s task.
There could be a bigger purpose to Cohen testifying, however, and that is simply to pile on to the negative perceptions about Trump.
Cohen hit Trump really hard regarding Melania and how this would all impact her.
For instance, when Cohen described his interaction with Trump on how these alleged affair stories getting out would impact his marriage, Trump reportedly told him not to worry about it because if she did get upset, Trump would not be on the market very long.
Cohen also stated that Trump told him it was Melania who came up with the idea of using the locker room talk excuse regarding the now-infamous “Access Hollywood” tape.
Cohen stated, “The spin he wanted put on it was that this is locker room talk, something that Melania had recommended, or at least he told me that’s what Melania had thought it was, and use that in order to get control over the story and to minimize its impact on him and his campaign.”
This either makes it look like Trump was deflecting the narrative or worse, that Melania was complicit and did not really care about the affairs.
I genuinely do feel sorry for Melania, who not only has to live through these allegations of cheating again, but now her name is being dragged through the mud in the process.
