An Amazon warehouse security guard in Ohio, who was supposed to be unarmed, attempted to kill his supervisor and later shot an officer before being killed by police.
The incident took place in West Jefferson on Sunday. Ali Hamsa Yusuf, 22, shot at the back of his supervisor’s head at close range and somehow managed to miss. The supervisor hit the ground after being fired at and then ran.
The facility was evacuated as the suspect fled the scene. No injuries were reported at the Amazon warehouse where over 100 employees were working, according to ABC News.
“Smith said the supervisor helped obtain video footage from inside the Amazon facility showing Yusuf about 3 feet behind the supervisor with the gun pointed at the supervisor’s head. The gun appears to have jammed and the bullet barely missed the supervisor,” The Columbus Dispatch noted referring to West Jefferson Chief Brandon Smith.

“He almost executed me,” the supervisor told the dispatcher.
“The firearm would have to have been brought in concealed, Smith West Jefferson Chief Brandon Smith said. As of Monday evening, detectives did not have a motive as to why Yusuf attempted to kill his supervisor, he said,” the media outlet added.
Yusuf didn’t miss when shooting at a Columbus police officer later. The officer was hit in his bulletproof vest which reportedly saved his life. He was transported in stable condition to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center, Downtown, and released several hours later.

Yusuf had no known previous criminal history.
“The Madison County Sheriff’s office said in a post on its Facebook page that deputies got a call about a possible active shooter at the warehouse located west of West Jefferson. The sheriff’s office and West Jefferson police responded and are investigating,” The Columbus Dispatch reported.
After Yusuf fled the scene, officers from Madison County in an unmarked vehicle tracked his car to Columbus and radioed for assistance. Multiple agencies descended on the scene, according to Brian Steel, president of the Fraternal Order of Police Capital City Lodge No. 9, who spoke with The Dispatch concerning the shooting.
When police attempted to stop Yusuf’s car at approximately 6:15 p.m., the suspect fired at the officers who then returned fire.
“Franklin Township police officers pulled their vehicles in front of the man’s sedan at a traffic light and a Columbus police cruiser with its dashcam on came up from behind. Yusuf exited his vehicle and began firing at the Columbus officer. Yusuf then began to run around the rear of his car. As Yusuf tried to run away, law enforcement officers began shooting at him and the Columbus police officer, whom the division is not identifying citing Marsy’s Law, realized he had been hit in his bulletproof vest,” The Dispatch wrote.

The suspect was shot and killed by officers. His death was confirmed by the West Jefferson police and the Franklin County Coroner’s Office after he was transported to Doctors West Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Amazon clarified later that Yusuf was a contract employee who had been assigned to the warehouse by a third-party partner.
“We’re thankful that no one at our facility was injured during this incident and for the work of our team on the ground and first responders,” Amazon spokesman Steve Kelly commented via email. “As this is an active investigation, we’re cooperating with the West Jefferson Police Department and will defer further comment to them at this time.”
