It has been nearly 70 years since the Soviet Union successfully launched Sputnik 1 into orbit, marking the beginning of the Space Race and mankind’s endeavor into the cosmos. But was it all worth it?
Glenn will be discussing Sputnik and the history of the Space Race in an upcoming Glenn TV special, which has inspired us to reflect on the last 70 years of space travel. We’ve all read about the first rockets, the first men in space, the first trips around the moon, and the moon landings.
We’ve all read about how these historic events were all part of some larger cultural and economic scheme to bring down the Soviet Union, but is ANY of that true? Or is the narrative we’ve been told largely crafted by exaggerations and propaganda? And if what we’ve been told about the space race is real, did the massive expenditure of resources and human lives pay off in the end? Glenn wants to hear from you. Let us know what you think in the poll below:
Did the space race help defeat the Soviet Union?
Is it still important for America to be a dominant power in space?
Was the moon landing fake?
Is space exploration worth the cost?
Will humans make it to Mars?
