The Obama family is mourning the loss of one of their own this week.
It has been reported that Peggy Moore and her wife were killed in a recent car accident.
Moore served as an Obama campaign official during Obama’s presidential run.
Sad Days
Moore, 60, was in a Jeep with her wife, Hope Wood, 48, coming home from a concert on Friday night when the accident happened.
The Jeep, which was being driven by someone else, crashed into a sedan, killing all three people in the Jeep as well as the driver of the sedan.
The accident reportedly took place in San Diego County.
According to local police, there was an additional passenger in the Jeep that survived the accident.
The local medical examiner’s office stated that the examination found that they were “traveling westbound on State Route 76 west of Horse Ranch Creek Road in Fallbrook.
“For unknown reasons, the Jeep collided with a Chrysler sedan [traveling] eastbound on the same roadway.
“The driver of the sedan [was] also pronounced on scene.”
The Alice B Toklas LGBTQ Democratic Club added, “We are shocked and saddened by the tragic passing of Peggy Moore and her wife Hope Wood. Peggy was an unrelenting political leader, community advocate, and friend to Alice.
“Her leadership on LGBTQ+ issues has made our community stronger. She will always be remembered for her dedication to democratic values, unmatched organizing skills, and affable nature. We extend our support, condolences, and well wishes to Peggy and Hope’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
Rep. Barbara Lee (R-CA) expressed her condolences, stating, “Peggy Moore & Hope Wood were remarkable women who dedicated their lives to equality & justice.”
Former Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, who had also worked with Moore, stated, “You could not walk anywhere with Peggy without it taking two hours.
“She knew every person. For her, politics was deeply personal. It was about connecting through our differences. to lift up our shared hopes and just love.”
As of the writing of this report, the Obama family had not commented on her passing.
