WHITTIER, CA – In a shocking incident that unfolded late Thursday in Whittier, a 7-year-old boy was repeatedly stabbed by his older brother. The violent incident left the young boy in critical condition, reported local law enforcement.
After receiving a call about a domestic disturbance around 10 p.m., Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Norwalk Station made their way to a residence in the 9600 block of Ben Hur Avenue.
When they arrived at the scene, they found the young child critically injured from multiple stab wounds. The 7-year-old victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is expected to survive, as per authorities.
However, the 24-year-old suspect had already fled the scene when deputies arrived. Establishing a barricade, the officials found the suspect a block away from the residence. The suspect was bleeding when discovered, although the cause of his injuries is yet to be determined. He was detained by the officials without any incident.
In a statement, the sheriff’s department disclosed that the suspect was going through a “mental health episode” during the time of the incident. No further injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing, and more details might be provided as the case proceeds.
