A police report states that David Kennedy Homol, a Florida man facing charges related to his alleged involvement in the January 6 US Capitol riot, has died by suicide while awaiting trial.
Homol, 55, was found deceased on April 17, having died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the Gateway Pundit reported.
He becomes the fifth individual connected to the J6 incident to have taken their own life, sparking outrage online.
The Epoch Times reported that federal prosecutors in Washington, D.C., filed a motion for abatement of prosecution and provided a death notice to US District Magistrate Judge Robin Meriweather on May 7.
Homol was apprehended by the FBI on January 10, 2024, in Orlando, Florida, on felony and misdemeanor charges, per the Justice Department.
The charges included obstruction of an official proceeding, civil disorder, and assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers, aligning with similar charges brought against other individuals involved in the events of J6.
Homol also faced several misdemeanor charges including, but not limited to, knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority and disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds.
Prosecutors allege that Homol assaulted two police officers on the Capitol’s West Plaza with a plastic flagpole just before 2:15 pm on January 6, 2021.
The FBI’s statement of facts documented that Homol allegedly struck the first officer in the back and assaulted a second one during a scuffle in which the officer attempted to take away his PVC flagpole.
Homol’s brother, Dillon Paul Homol, 25, was sentenced in January to two years of probation and was ordered to pay a $4,000 fine, per the DOJ.
He was found guilty on three misdemeanor charges in September 2023 and pleaded guilty to one count of parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building. However, he was acquitted of obstruction of an official proceeding.
The Gateway Pundit’s Christina Laila did a deep dive on the other four J6 defendants who tragically took their lives after facing what some characterize as relentless harassment from the DOJ under the Biden administration.
These individuals are identified as Matthew Perna, Jord Meachum, Mark Aungst, and Chris Stanton, the outlet reported.
“The intense scrutiny, public shaming, and legal pressures have created an unbearable environment for those awaiting trial or serving sentences, which contributed to a sense of hopelessness and isolation, ultimately leading to tragic outcomes,” Laila said.
She stated Perna took his own life after being arrested following the events of J6, even though he was never accused of violence or vandalism, just of entering the Capitol.
Meacham tragically shot himself in the head just two weeks after facing charges from the Biden administration for four misdemeanor offenses stemming from his presence inside the Capitol.
Aungst died by suicide in July 2022 after he pleaded guilty in the month prior to the charge of parading in the Capitol. He was facing a potential sentence of up to six months in prison and a $5,000 fine.
Georgia died by suicide after being charged in connection with the Capitol riot, and was discovered with a gunshot wound to the chest.
