Barron Trump, the youngest son of former President Trump, is stepping into politics. At 18, he’s been chosen as an at-large delegate for Florida at the Republican National Convention.
The Republican Party of Florida confirmed his selection on Wednesday. As a delegate, Barron will join the effort to nominate his father for the presidential race in November.
Evan Power, chairman of the Republican Party of Florida, highlighted Barron’s role. The high school senior will be one of 41 at-large delegates representing Florida at the national event.
So far, Barron has maintained a low profile, focusing on his education. His visibility increased recently due to his father’s “hush money” trial in New York, which threatened to keep Trump from attending Barron’s upcoming graduation.
Thankfully, the judge adjusted the trial schedule, allowing Trump to be present for his son’s graduation on May 17.
Barron studies at a private high school close to the Mar-a-Lago estate in South Florida.
He is the only child of Donald and Melania Trump.
His siblings, Donald Trump Jr., Eric, and Tiffany, will also attend the convention in Milwaukee from July 15 to 18. Eric Trump is set to chair the delegation and will officially nominate their father.
An official from the campaign told ABC News about Barron’s keen interest in politics.
Evan Power praised the Florida delegation, which includes grassroots leaders, elected officials, and Trump family members, in a statement to The Associated Press.
On March 12, following primaries in Georgia, Mississippi, and Washington state, Donald Trump was named the presumptive Republican nominee. He celebrated this as a “really great day of victory” in a video to his supporters.
