Former President Donald Trump just invited many individuals who are believed to be on his running mate’s “short list” to an event at Mar-a-Lago.
The event, according to Fox News, is taking place this weekend. In fact, it started on Friday evening, after Trump’s day in court.
The event is the Republican National Committee’s (Republican National Committee) Spring Donor Retreat.
In attendance will be not only big-time Republican donors, but also many of Trump’s allies – allies who are believed to be serious contenders for Trump’s running mate spot.
They’re all going to be there
The Independent reports that at the event will be “more than 400 deep-pocketed donors and high-profile politicians.”
Fox highlights the high-profile politicians who will be in attendance who are likely on Trump’s vice president shortlist.
The outlet reports:
Among those listed as “special guests” are possible running mates Sens. Tim Scott of South Carolina, JD Vance of Ohio, and Marco Rubio of Florida. So are Govs,. Doug Burgum of North Dakota and Kristi Noem from South Dakota. Two top Trump supporters in the House – Reps. Elise Seefanik of New York and Byron Donalds of Florida – will also be there, as will entrepreneur and former 2024 presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.
The main event, according to the Independent, will be a fundraising lunch, hosted by Trump himself, at Mar-a-Lago on Saturday.
It is unclear who will speak at the event.
Who is it going to be?
We still do not know, but Trump did recently drop a hint about when he might make his decision public.
“I’ll be picking, but probably not too much before the convention, which I happen to be having in the great state of Wisconsin,” Trump said.
Here, the former president is referring to the Republican National Conventions, which is scheduled to take place from July 15 to July 18. So, it is going to be some time before we know who Trump is going to pick.
A recent NBC News report suggests that, at this point, Trump himself still does not know who is going to choose. According to the outlet:
Trump’s team has yet to move past the early stages of vetting vice presidential prospects, seven sources familiar with the process said. Top contenders have not received detailed questionnaires or other requests for information to help finalize a shortlist, though there are signs that they are being evaluated for their fundraising prowess.
NBC does cite anonymous sources for its report, so it has to be taken with a large grain of salt.
