HAINAULT, UK – Marcus Aurelio Arduini Monzo was formally charged on Tuesday for the murder of 14-year-old Daniel Anjorin. The 36-year-old Spanish-Brazilian is also facing additional charges, including attempted murder, aggravated burglary, and possession of a bladed weapon.
Monzo is set to appear at Barkingside Magistrates Court this Thursday. The announcement came after the Metropolitan Police’s prompt investigation, which was coordinated with the Crown Prosecution Service’s homicide division.
Jaswant Narwal, the chief crown prosecutor for CPS London North, empathized with the bereaved family and emphasized the importance of impartial proceedings. He reminded the public to refrain from sharing information that could potentially prejudice the trial.
The harrowing incident unfolded in Hainault, east London, where police were alerted of a vehicle crashing into a house at Thurlow Gardens. The suspect, armed with a sword, then allegedly went on a stabbing spree. The victims included two police officers who sustained serious injuries and two civilians.
Monzo was apprehended 22 minutes after the initial police call. He had to be momentarily hospitalized due to injuries from the ill-fated vehicle crash prior to the stabbings.
Ch Supt Stuart Bell voiced the police force’s empathy for the grieving family, announcing the young boy’s demise with heartfelt sorrow. Also, the commissioner of Metropolitan Police, Sir Mark Rowley, disclosed that one of the injured officers underwent an emergency surgery post-incident and is now facing a long recovery.
Two of the victims, including the deceased teen Anjorin, attended Bancroft’s school in Woodford Green, bringing back haunting memories of another fatal stabbing involving a former pupil in 2023.
