“They really want to go after agriculture. They want to blame agriculture for global warming,” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said in February during his speech in Hardee County.
On Wednesday, DeSantis signed SB1084, prohibiting the sale of lab-grown meat in the state of Florida, taking his fight against the campaign of the World Economic Forum to force people to feed on lab-grown meat and insects.
“Today, Florida is fighting back against the global elite’s plan to force the world to eat meat grown in a petri dish or bugs to achieve their authoritarian goals.”
“Our administration will continue to focus on investing in our local farmers and ranchers, and we will save our beef,” said Gov. DeSantis.
He also announced that Florida would increase meat production and encouraged Floridians to eat meat and enjoy authentic Florida beef.
Meanwhile, Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Wilton Simpson praised DeSantis and said, “Florida is taking a tremendous step in the right direction by signing first-in-the-nation legislation banning lab-grown meat. We must protect our incredible farmers and the integrity of American agriculture. Lab-grown meat is a disgraceful attempt to undermine our proud traditions and prosperity and is in direct opposition to authentic agriculture.”
“I applaud Governor DeSantis, Senate President Kathleen Passidomo, House Speaker Paul Renner, Senator Jay Collins, and Representative Danny Alvarez for standing up for Florida’s farmers and consumers. Together, we will keep Florida’s agricultural industry strong and thriving,” Simpson added.
SB1084 is DeSantis’ response to the global elite’s ESG (environmental, social, and governance) hypocrisy.
ESG is a business strategy that pushes investors to put their money into companies with environmental and social advocacy.
“You need meat, OK? We are going to have meat in Florida. We are not going to do that fake meat. Like, that doesn’t work,” DeSantis quipped earlier this year.
In protest of WEF and others, the state also imposed policies to support the agriculture and meat industry, including the modernization of Florida’s Right to Farm law to ensure that agriculture activities are secure from frivolous lawsuits, legislating a law that allows agri-tourism businesses to qualify for protection against property tax assessments when they operate in agricultural areas and simplifying methods for farmers to acquire sales tax exemptions for agricultural materials.
DeSantis also reestablished funding for the Rural and Family Lands Protection Program, which was created in 2022. This program ensured the protection of at least 36,000 farmlands.
Furthermore, the state has allocated $2.8 billion to Florida’s agricultural industry under the Framework for Freedom Budget.
