Donald Trump slammed the mob occupying Columbia University Tuesday, saying he believes they are “paid agitators.”
Trump made the comments during a Fox News interview after the NYPD began forcibly removing people from the academic building and making further arrests on site.
“I really think you have a lot of paid agitators, professional agitators in here too, and I see it all over,” Trump stated, adding “You know, when you see signs and they’re all identical. That means they’re being paid by a source.”
He continued, “You know, these aren’t hand-painted signs where people would go to their basement and paint something because they really believed that. These are all signs that are identical that made by the same printer.”
“And you know, when you see that that means there’s somebody at the top that’s paying, or a group that’s paying,” Trump further urged, adding “they’re doing a great disservice to the world, but they’re doing a great disservice to our country.”
Trump praised police officers in riot gear who entered Columbia University to clear out the protesters, but noted “it should never have gotten to this, they should have done it a lot sooner than before they took over the building because it would have been a lot easier if they were in tents rather than a building.”
“And tremendous damage done too, when you look at that building, that’s a landmark, and it’s really been damaged badly by these people,” Trump added.
Video of the NYPD moving in and clearing the campus quickly emerged online:
The police were not messing around:
They ripped down Palestinian flags and replaced them with American flags:
This one was at City College:
Columbia officials, who had asked the police to come and clear the building, have admitted that they believe some of those leading the occupiers were ‘outside individuals’ who are not students at the University.
“We believe that while the group who broke into the building includes students, it is led by individuals who are not affiliated with the University,” a letter to the NYPD notes, adding “The individuals who have occupied Hamilton Hall have vandalized University property and are trespassing.”
“These activities have become a magnet for protesters outside our gates which creates significant risk to our campus and disrupts the ability of the University to continue normal operations,” the letter adds, also noting that “At this time, all participants in the encampments are suspended, not authorized to be on University property and are trespassing.”
