During a recent interview with Time Magazine, Donald Trump made an announcement that shook the election.
Trump told Time that his team is looking at pardons for J6 defendants.
Trump told the publication that he is “absolutely” considering pardoning every single one of them.
Good or Bad Decision
Trump constantly refers to J6 defendants as “patriots,” so this is not exactly a surprise.
I am just not sure it is something that he should be talking about before the election.
If Trump pardons J6 defendants, he is opening up a can of worms that can definitely hurt him before the election and possibly lead to yet another impeachment if he is elected and goes through with the pardons.
Karoline Leavitt, national press secretary for the Trump campaign, confirmed the possible pardons.
She stated, “As President Trump has promised, he will pardon January 6th protestors who are wrongfully imprisoned by Crooked Joe Biden’s Justice Department, and those decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis when he is back in the White House.”
Trump did add one small disclaimer, stating, “If somebody was evil and bad, I would look at that differently.”
There are voters on both sides of the aisle who will fight this, so I think it is foolish of Trump to even discuss this right now.
I believe the only people who would support such a move would be Trump’s diehard MAGA supporters, who have been demanding pardons since day one.
I think this would put some Trump supporters in Congress in a very difficult position, to the point they could pull their support of Trump over this one issue.
Furthermore, if Trump does pardon these individuals after taking office and Democrats still have Congress, you better believe they will impeach him for providing aid and comfort to insurrectionists.
Strategically speaking, this would be a massive mistake for Trump to make.
