A pro-hamas protester at Columbia University spoke out on Tuesday and conveyed the demands of those occupying Hamilton Hall on the school’s Morningside campus.
The internet swiftly ripped the woman over an outlandish accusation where she stated school administrators wanted “students to die of dehydration and starvation.”
The Post Millennial (PM) identified the protester, sharing that Johanna King-Slutsky has been an active campus activist since at least 2021.
She affiliates with the Student Workers of Columbia and is currently pursuing a PhD in English and Comparative Literature, the outlet added.
King-Slutsky was asked by a reporter in the heavily criticized clip, “Why should the university be obligated to provide food to people who’ve taken over a building?”
She replied, “Well uh first of all we’re saying that they should be obligated to provide food for students who pay for a meal plan here.”
The reporter pressed, “You mentioned that there was a request that food and water be brought in,” to which King-Slutsky replied, “To allow it to be brought in.”
“I mean, well I guess it’s ultimately a question of what kind of community and obligation Columbia feels it has to its students,” the protestor added. “Do you want students to die of dehydration and starvation or get severely ill even they disagree with you?”
“If the answer is no, then you should allow basic—I mean it’s crazy to say because we are on an Ivy League campus but this is like basic humanitarian aid we’re asking for. Like, could people please have a glass of water,” she continued.
Users on X torched the protestor online for her comments, with one mocking her by saying, “Or you could leave and go get some food.”
Jordan Schachtel quipped, “I did a quick search and found that this lady, who refused to reveal her name, is named Johannah King-Slutzky.”
“She is a paid instructor & PhD candidate at Columbia studying ‘theories of the imagination & poetry as interpreted through a Marxian lens,’ he added. “No, I’m not making this up.”
Townhall’s Matt Vespa joked, “Many were mocking these faux rebels for being unable to carry out their insurrection without UberEats/DoorDash.”
“ … If any of this is true about the woman in the clip, then the talk of student loan bailouts should also end forever,” he teased.
PM reported that King-Slutsky’s status as a PhD student at Columbia was visible on the university’s website Tuesday morning, but the page vanished by evening.
Her biography detailed her dissertation focus: “My dissertation is on fantasies of limitless energy in the transatlantic Romantic imagination from 1760-1860. My goal is to write a prehistory of metabolic rift, Marx’s term for the disruption of energy circuits caused by industrialization under capitalism.”
“I am particularly interested in theories of the imagination and poetry as interpreted through a Marxian lens in order to update and propose an alternative to historicist ideological critiques of the Romantic imagination,” it continued. “Prior to joining Columbia, I worked as a political strategist for leftist and progressive causes and remain active in the higher education labor movement.”
