(NewsNation) — House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries announced Tuesday that House Democrats will block Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s effort to oust House Speaker Mike Johnson.
“We will vote to table Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Motion to Vacate the Chair. If she invokes the motion, it will not succeed,” Jeffries said in a statement.
Greene, R-Ga., introduced the motion to vacate, as it’s known, last month. However, she had thus far declined to force a vote on the resolution.
Greene and some other GOP lawmakers have been frustrated with Johnson, especially after he allowed a $95 billion foreign aid bill to pass last week.
Greene accused Johnson of betraying Republicans for putting tens of billions of dollars in Ukraine aid up for a vote. She believes that money should go to protecting the U.S.-Mexico border.
Since filing the motion to vacate the chair, Greene had received support from two other Republicans.
