SAN ANTONIO, TX – A celebration in San Antonio ended with a violent shooting, causing the deaths of two people and injuring four others, as informed by San Antonio Police Chief William McManus.
The incident unfolded just after midnight in Market Square, where two men started shooting at each other. One man was killed at the scene, while the other was fatally wounded after police officers returned fire.
According to the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD), nearby patrolling officers heard the gunfire and saw one young man running from the scene. The suspect reportedly turned and fired his weapon at another young man. When the police officers intervened, the suspect turned his gun on them, leading the officers to retaliate and fatally shoot him.
The police chief confirmed that four bystanders sustained gunshot wounds amidst the chaos. Two of the wounded were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the remaining two were treated on-site.
As of the present time, there is no information on what instigated the shooting or the identities of the people involved. Weapons were recovered from the scene near each of the deceased individuals.
