Reviled ex-movie mogul Harvey Weinstein was rushed to Manhattan’s Bellevue Hospital following the stunning overturning of his 2020 rape conviction by New York’s highest court.
After he returned to Rikers Island jail on Friday ahead of next week’s court appearance, Weinstein was moved to the hospital for a battery of tests.
“They examined him and sent him to Bellevue,” Weistein’s attorney, Arthur Aidala, told the Associated Press. “It seems like he needs a lot of help, physically. He’s got a lot of problems. He’s getting all kinds of tests. He’s somewhat of a train wreck health wise.”
As BizPac Review reported, Weinstein had been serving a 23-year sentence for these particular charges which include a criminal sex act for forcibly performing oral sex on a TV and film production assistant in 2006 and a rape in the third degree involving an aspiring actress in 2013.

The New York Court of Appeals ruled that the judge in the notorious #MeToo trial made “egregious errors.”
“We conclude that the trial court erroneously admitted testimony of uncharged, alleged prior sexual acts against persons other than the complainants of the underlying crimes because that testimony served no material non-propensity purpose,” the majority opinion stated.
“The court ordered a new trial to be held on the charges,” the Washington Examiner reports. “Weinstein’s 2022 rape conviction in Los Angeles, which landed a 16-year prison sentence, was unaffected by the ruling.”
Aidala told the AP that Weinstein is mentally “sharp as a tack. Feet are firmly planted on the ground.”
The aging rapist’s problems are physical and include cardiac issues, diabetes, sleep apnea, and eye problems.
“Frank Dwyer, a spokesperson with the New York City Department of Correction, said only that Weinstein remains in custody at Bellevue,” AP reports. “Thomas Mailey, a spokesperson for the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, said Weinstein was turned over to the city’s Department of Correction pursuant to the appeals ruling. Weinstein had been housed at the Mohawk Correctional Facility, about 100 miles (160 kilometers) northwest of Albany.”
“He was not treated well. They refused to give him even a sip of water, no food, no bathroom break,” Aidala said. “He’s a 72-year-old sickly man.”
On X, few have any sympathy for Weinstein’s medical issues.
“Meanwhile, we have innocent men and women who aren’t rapists sitting in prison for NOT an insurrection,” fumed one user.
“Gimme 1000 years to work up some tears,” scoffed another.
“Are we supposed to have sympathy?” asked a third.

“Aidala said he was told that Bellevue doctors planned to run a lot of tests on Weinstein before he can be returned to the Rikers Island jail complex,” AP reports. “The lawyer said he’s scheduled to meet with Weinstein on Monday. He added that he plans to tell a judge when Weinstein goes to court on Wednesday in Manhattan that a retrial should occur after Labor Day.”
