Mobs of rowdy migrants engaged in a violent brawl outside a Midtown hotel, using sticks, belts, and traffic cones as weapons during the broad-daylight melee, according to a shocking new video.
The altercation involved at least a dozen asylum seekers outside The Row hotel on Eighth Avenue. One particularly aggressive migrant was seen swinging a bat at the group before another combatant was taken down and beaten by four others, as shown in footage posted on X.
“Brawling migrants wielded sticks, belts, and even traffic cones during a Midtown scuffle,” C.N.O. Team, who posted the footage, described.
The chaotic scene unfolded in the middle of the street, with two individuals donning bicycle helmets as vehicles continued to pass by amidst the fight.
At one point, a violent migrant attacked another from behind, knocking off his helmet with a blow to the head before retreating across Eighth Avenue, the video captured.
The reasons behind the brawl remain unclear, and the NYPD had not provided comments on the incident at the time of the report.
The Row hotel is among several accommodations repurposed to shelter asylum seekers who have been arriving in New York City from the border of the United States and the United Mexican States.
Since the spring of 2022, over 190,000 migrants have reached the Big Apple, with more than 64,000 currently residing in city shelters. In a related January incident, one migrant was fatally stabbed during an attack at a large tent city on Randall’s Island, set up to manage the influx of asylum seekers.
Last month, Mayor Eric Adams implemented curfews at several major migrant housing sites to address concerns about violence.
The image of rowdy foreigners engaging in a street battle outside of a hotel is evocative of the famous Thai “ladyboy riot” from earlier this year, in which numerous Thai “ladyboys” (many of them working as prostitutes) rioted outside of a hotel frequently used by Filipino “ladyboys,” who were living in Bangkok as an immigrant population.
The term “ladyboy” is the most common translation of the Khmer-originating term “kathoey,” describing biological males who affect the attributes of women. This phenomenon is largely distinct from and independent of Western transgender ideology. These “ladyboys” are disproportionately involved in various forms of sex work, catering to the massive sex tourism industries in Bangkok and other Southeast Asian cities.
Captured on video, the melee saw the use of stilettos as weapons, with participants hitting police officers, climbing buildings and engaging in physical altercations that led to clothing being torn and objects thrown.
The incident did not conclude on the streets but continued at the Lumpini district police station, where the Filipino sex workers were reportedly detained for lacking the necessary visas and work permits. The superintendent highlighted the efforts to question suspects, complainants and any identified individuals for further interrogation, along with checking their immigration status to confirm their eligibility to work in Thailand.
Much like the recent incident depicted in New York, the Thai ladyboy riot involved foreign-born populations in a violent street brawl outside of a hotel, suggesting an alarming trend in the hospitality industry.
