A shocking report recently surfaced in The Atlantic as part of a profile piece on Speaker Johnson (R-LA).
In the piece, it was revealed that Johnson’s sons almost died during a recent trip to Mar-a-Lago to have discussions with Donald Trump.
Johnson stated that he had been notified that his son had been dragged out by the riptide and had almost drowned.
Avoiding Tragedy
Last fall, Johnson traveled down to Florida for a fundraiser event over Thanksgiving.
While Johnson was in Palm Beach, he also met with Trump at Mar-a-Lago, but that is not the big news here.
During another meeting Johnson was having with donors, his security detail approached him and told him, “Mr. Speaker, we need you right now.”
Johnson soon found out that one of his sons, Will, had been swept out into the deep water of the ocean by the riptide.
His other son, Jack, saw this and tried to help Will, trying to get him back up to the surface.
Thankfully, a parasailer saw the boys struggling and managed to get the attention of lifeguards, who went out to rescue the boys on jet skis.
When Johnson arrived, his boys were both having their chests pumped and were sent to the emergency room for treatment before being sent back home.
As someone who lived at the beach for almost a decade on the East Coast, I can tell you from experience that it literally takes seconds when that riptide gets ahold of you for you to be swept out and overwhelmed by the ocean.
Johnson told that story to The Atlantic, adding, “President Trump heard about it somehow—miraculously, this never made the news.
“He was just so moved by the idea that we almost lost them, and we talked about it at great length.
“And we talked about the faith aspect of that, because he knows that I believe that, you know—that God spared the lives of my sons. That’s how I understand those events, and we talked about that.
“And he said, he repeated back to me and said, ‘God—God saved your sons’ lives.’”
Trump and Johnson must have seriously bonded during that trip because Trump is now doing his best to save Johnson as Speaker while the MAGA faction of the House is trying to have him removed.
