A Texas Republican fighting for his political life took to CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday and leveled unforgivable charges against some of his party colleagues. Rep. Tony Gonzalez (R-TX) raged to host Dana Bash that primary opponent Brandon Herrera is a “neo-Nazi.”
He then proceeded to trash several of his GOP colleagues — a very bad look on liberal CNN.
Herrera was one of four GOP challengers to Gonzalez on Super Tuesday. And while the incumbent took 45% of the tally to Herrera’s second-place 25% total, this required a runoff to be held on May 28.
On Sunday, Congressman Tony Gonzalez (R-Texas) appeared on CNN to criticize his primary opponent and several of his conservative colleagues, accusing them of pedophilia and neo-Nazism.https://t.co/PgJAZBpG1v

Gonzalez ripped Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), who was the first of multiple party members to endorse Herrera, a noted Second Amendment advocate. The Texas representative drudged up debunked accusations against Gaetz for the CNN audience.
The Florida Republican is hardly a wallflower and struck back against his Texas colleague with a vengeance. He responded by blasting Gonzalez for “laundering lies on CNN” and doubling down on his endorsement of the Texan’s runoff opponent.
The incumbent then targeted Rep. Bob Good (R-VA) before leveling his “neo-Nazi” charge against Herrera.
This apparently referenced a photograph of his challenger in 2022 holding an MP-40 German submachine gun.
The Texas GOP congressman told Bash, “Bob Good endorsed my opponent, a known neo-Nazi. These people used to walk around with white hoods at night. Now they’re walking around with white hoods in the daytime.”
Herrera brushed off the frontal attack on CNN. He posted on X, formerly Twitter, “This is the death spiral, ladies and gentlemen. He has to cry to his liberal friends about me, because Republicans won’t listen anymore.”
Gonzalez took aim at Republicans who have the audacity to stand on principle and oppose selling out their votes to the Biden White House. He declared, “I served 20 years in the military. It’s my absolute honor to be in Congress, but I serve with some real scumbags.”
“Scumbags” that include some of his most prominent conservative colleagues in the House. Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Paul Gosar (R-AZ) publicly endorsed a motion to vacate the Speaker’s position held by Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA).
