Here we go again: Portland declares riot as protesters throw urine, projectiles at cops and try to burn down Justice Center

PORTLAND, OR- According to a press release from the Portland Police Bureau (PPB), hundreds of rioters descended on downtown Portland over the weekend of November 19-20, smashing windows, hurling objects at police, and discussing plans to burn down the Multnomah County Justice Center.

The chaos began at approximately 7 p.m. on Friday, November 19th, when a motorist called the PPB to report that a group of rioters who were blocking Southwest Main Street near Southwest 2nd Avenue had busted out the window of his vehicle.

A short time after that, the group focused its attention on a metal gate securing a ramp leading to the Multnomah County Detention Center (MCDC). Some individuals in the crowd were heard saying, “burn it down,” referring to the Justice Center.

Individuals were also observed tampering with the gate prior to its opening. An estimated 10 to 20 protesters entered and began moving down the ramp in the direction of the jail entrance and the building’s critical infrastructure.

Deputies made their way up the ramp and headed off the riot’s advance into the building, ordering them to get out. The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) said in a statement:

“The crowd, which was described as hostile, launched urine, alcoholic beverages, water bottles, and batteries at deputies during the event.

Because a large group of people were engaging in tumultuous and violent conduct, and further entry into the building would have posed significant implications and grave risk of causing public alarm, the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office declared a riot.”

At the sheriff’s office’s direction, the PPB mobile command unit put out the riot declaration and force warnings multiple times using the mobile sound truck. Police stated that the rioters continued to hurl harmful projectiles at deputies as they tried to block the mob from entering the Justice Center. The sheriff’s office said:

“Demonstrators the stood at the garage exit, repeatedly preventing the gate from closing by pushing on it. Again, deputies asked the crowd to step away.”

The rioters ignored their repeated commands and continued to block the gate, so the deputies “swiftly moved toward the demonstrators that were preventing the gate from closing to allow space for the gate to close properly.”

The deputies were then able to retreat back into the Justice Center and were eventually able to secure the gate once again. They did not make any arrests. PPB stated that rioters also spray-painted anti-police messages on the outside of the Justice Center.

A group of rioters in the area of Southwest 1st Avenue and Southwest 2nd Avenue bashed out the windows of a city print shop and shattered the back hatch window of a PPB sergeant’s patrol vehicle.

Rioters damaged doors to city buildings and tagged the PPB Central Precinct with graffiti. The rioters lit trash on fire in the streets and tore down construction signs and fencing used to barricade the roadway.

PPB made two arrests in the midst oft the mayhem, but neither arrest appeared to be linked to the riot. PPB’s press release stated that 27-year-old Elly Starling was arrested on an outstanding warrant. 44-year-old Alan Bordeaux was arrested for allegedly shining a laser at a police air unit. PPB noted:

“He was not near the riot and there is no indication his actions were related to it, but resources had to diverted to address the immediate danger to the police aircraft.”

Officers also issued five citations and 17 warnings to suspects who were in the vicinity of the riot. The mob had largely dispersed by 11 p.m.

Editor note: In 2020, we saw a nationwide push to “defund the police”.  While we all stood here shaking our heads wondering if these people were serious… they cut billions of dollars in funding for police officers.

And as a result, crime has skyrocketed – all while the same politicians who said “you don’t need guns, the government will protect you” continued their attacks on both our police officers and our Second Amendment rights.

And that’s exactly why we’re launching this national crowdfunding campaign as part of our efforts to help “re-fund the police”.

Powder keg: Protests over Rittenhouse jury verdict declared a riot in downtown Portland as Justice Center attacked

November 20th, 2021

PORTLAND, OR – Portland police Friday night declared a riot after a downtown protest over the acquittal of Kyle Rittenhouse turned violent as the Justice Center was targeted.

The riot was declared as a group of about 200 protesters in downtown Portland began breaking windows, throwing objects at police, and talking about burning down the Justice Center.

The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office declared the riot when the gate to the Justice Center detention area was damaged. Portland Police Bureau (PPB) tweeted during the violence:

“Due to violent, destructive behavior by a significant part of the crowd, the gathering in downtown Portland is a RIOT. All participants are instructed to proceed away to the WEST.

“To those gathered near the Justice Center: This gathering is a riot. All persons leave the area now. Travel to the west. Failure to adhere to this order may subject you to detention, citation and or arrest. You are subject to force to include pepper spray and impact weapons.”

The PPB clarified that the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office declared the riot, not the PPB:

“(The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office) declared the riot downtown when the gate to the detention center was being damaged. (A) Portland Police sound truck was used to broadcast that information on behalf of our partners. PPB did not declare a riot.”

The riot followed the verdict reached Friday in the trial of Kyle Rittenhouse, who was found not guilty on all counts including intentional homicide.

Rittenhouse shot three men, killing two of them and wounding a third, during an anti-police protest in Kenosha, Wisconsin, last year. Rittenhouse argued that he fired in self-defense after the men attacked him. The jury agreed.

PPB Police Chief Chuck Lovell stated shortly after the verdict was announced that officers were planning for potential violence on Friday and over the weekend. He said the city would call for other assistance, including from the Oregon State Police, if needed.

He also did not rule out the Oregon National Guard if the threat level increased.

Around 8:50 p.m., protesters gathered downtown and began blocking streets. The crowd began smashing windows and throwing rocks and other objects at police.

PPD communicated with the public through their Twitter account throughout the event. As the crowd began to turn violent, the PPB warned citizens:

“A crowd has gathered near SE 2nd Avenue and SE Madison Street and participants have begun breaking windows and damaging doors of city facilities in the area. People are throwing objects at police officers in the area.”

Protesters began tearing down fencing and construction signs to use as street barricades, banging on doors and yelling anti-police chants. There were also trash fires and other debris set on fire in the streets, according to KOIN News.

Chris Liedle, Communications Director for the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office said a riot was declared when rioters began “tampering with” a roll-up gate at the Justice Center. He said rioters began moving down a ramp toward the entrance to the jail and used large tree branches to hold the gate open.

Liedle said the “hostile” crowd threw “urine, alcoholic beverages, water bottles and batteries” at officers.

By 11 p.m., the riot ended when protests dispersed from the area. One person was arrested, possibly for an outstanding warrant, and another received a criminal citation. Five cars pulled over during the violence were issued five citations and 17 warnings.

PPB said the investigation into the riot is continuing.

Unhinged ‘Squad Member’ Rep. Cori Bush claims Rittenhouse trial means white supremacists “can shoot at us”

November 17, 2021

The following contains editorial content written by a retired Chief of Police and current staff writer for Law Enforcement Today.

There is a lot of competition for the biggest lunatic in Congress amongst the Democrats, however the former champion Maxine Waters has officially been replaced by Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO). She isn’t even trying to operate in the realm of either reality or common sense anymore, not that she ever was.

This week, Bush was speaking about the high-profile trial of Kyle Rittenhouse in Wisconsin whereby she (and many who inhabit far-left loonyville) is inserting race into the issue.

In a statement that borders on the insane, Bush claimed that an acquittal of Rittenhouse meant it was “open season” on black Americans at the hands of white supremacists, according to a report in Breitbart News. For perspective, let’s examine a few facts.

Rittenhouse is white…Joseph Rosenbaum (whom he shot) is white…so is Anthony Huber…as well as Gaige Grosskreutz. The judge is white, the prosecutors are white and so are the defense attorneys. So on what planet has this become a trial about “white supremacy,” “white privilege,” or race?

The one single racial component, if you will, to this whole case is the initial police shooting of Jacob Blake, a black man who was armed with a knife who was shot by police officers and justifiably so. Of course the media, leftist politicians and others started pushing the typical narrative, and the mob took that as their cue to do what they do best…loot, burn, and destroy things. That is what brought Kyle Rittenhouse to Kenosha, a city where his father and grandmother live…his family, his second home.

Bush, who clearly appears to suffer from some type of psychological disorder still believes that Michael Brown, a criminal thug who tried to disarm a Ferguson, Missouri police officer and shoot him, was instead “murdered” by that officer, Darren Wilson, a lie which Bush repeated on Monday.

Building upon that lie, Bush claimed that during the riots which of course took place in Ferguson after Brown’s death, white supremacists in the city allegedly would “hide up in the hills” and shoot at protesters. The problem with Bush’s statement? According to the Ferguson police chief, that never happened.

“When we marched in Ferguson, white supremacists would hide behind a hill near where Michael Brown Jr. was murdered and shoot at us,” Bush said. “They never faced consequences. If Kyle Rittenhouse gets acquitted, it tells them that even 7 years later they can still get away with it,” the unhinged Bush tweeted.

If Kyle Rittenhouse gets acquitted, it tells them that even 7 years later they can still get away with it,” the unhinged Bush tweeted.

A Black Lives Matter activist named Ohun Ashe also claimed Bush’s statement to be “facts”:

“This is FACTS! I vividly remember hiding under porches in Canfield as shots were fired at us. No one came to help us. We would come from under porches using cars as shields in between gun shots to make it out,” Ashe tweeted.

A spokesperson for Bush was unable to provide specifics of Bush’s allegations other than to claim white supremacists shot at Bush and others during the rioting in Ferguson.

“While on the frontlines of the Ferguson uprising, Congresswoman Bush and other activists were shot at by white supremacist vigilantes. The question we need to ask is why white supremacists feel empowered to open-carry rifles, incite violence, and put black lives at risk across our country,” the spokesperson said.

The only issue with Bush’s claim about getting “shot at by white supremacists” is that it is a bold-faced lie, and that is according to Ferguson’s black police chief, Frank McCall Jr., who said the Ferguson police department has no record of any such incident(s) happening.

“Not that I’m aware of,” McCall told the Webster County Citizen.

While several armed members of the Oath Keepers spent some time in Ferguson during that time, no members of that group or for example the KKK were ever charged in any shootings in the city. At the time, then-St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar called the presence of the Oath Keepers “both unnecessary and inflammatory.”
