Daniel Stompel, a political science student and member of Pi Kappa Phi at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, recently spoke out about his decision to protect the American flag from pro-Palestinian protestors who wanted to tear it down.
Stompel explained to Fox News that he and his fraternity brothers felt a communal sense of duty, collectively deciding to defend the flag regardless of the risks, including injury or worse.
“I love that side of America,” Stompel said. “We all just kind of connected our brains and stood there protecting one thing … If stuff was flying in, we’d say ‘heads up,’ we would cover each other, we would look out for other people.”
“I was like, ‘I’d die for this flag,’ and everybody was like, ‘yeah, if they get any closer we’re gonna start throwing hands,” the fraternity brother added. “They’re gonna have to tear me off this flag by my dead body.”
Stompel described the experience as “insane” but emphasized that despite this, he departed with a sense of “hope.” He continued, stating, “It’s good to see people still put their bodies on the line, their mind and sole on the line, to protect this flag.”
“There’s still patriots in this country that actually wanna fight and would sacrifice themselves for this flag, this country,” he said.
The Post Millennial reported that Stompel implied that the attention their footage received was due to the rarity of Americans defending their country under Joe Biden’s administration.
He further remarked that people seemed unaccustomed to witnessing even basic acts of patriotism, particularly on a university campus. “Don’t bend a knee to these people,” he said.
“They want you gone; they want to take over. They want to destroy what this country stands for … Be a man. Take a stand,” he concluded.
Resist The Mainstream reported earlier today on the fraternity brothers at UNC garnering mass praise on social media after video footage captured the boys enduring a barrage of water bottles while defending the flag.
“Brendan Rosenblum, a junior and Jewish student at UNC-Chapel Hill, had water bottles thrown at him as he stood in the middle of the quad by with an Israeli flag while protesters tried to replace an American flag with a Palestinian one,” Bryan Anderson shared on X.
Someone eventually opened up a GoFundMe page for the boys, with a bio that read: “Commie losers across the country have invaded college campuses to make dumb demands of weak University Administrators.”
It also joked about “platoon of American heroes” who “protected Old Glory from the unwashed Marxist horde.”
“ … Help us raise funds to throw this frat the party they deserve, a party worth of the boat-shoed Broleteriat who did their country proud,” it continued.
X users ceremoniously praised the page for its hilarious description. “Frat boys are literally saving America,” lamented Kingsley Wilson.
The bio was later updated, stating, “We are overwhelmed by you glorious, Patriotic Americans who value good beer and great times. We are in contact with multiple leaders from fraternities whose members helped defend the flag, including Alpha Epsilon Pi and others, in addition to Pi Kappa Psi. Our gratitude goes to all of them and we will update supporters on what comes next.”
