California Governor Gavin Newsom has fiercely criticized President Donald Trump, calling him a “stone-cold liar,” for the President’s failure to mention his plans to deploy the California National Guard in response to protests in Los Angeles during a phone call on Saturday morning.
Knewz.com has learned that President Trump signed a memorandum “deploying 2,000 National Guardsmen to address the lawlessness” in California as protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations continue in the state.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement on Saturday:
“In the wake of this violence, California’s feckless Democrat leaders have completely abdicated their responsibility to protect their citizens… That is why President Trump has signed a Presidential Memorandum deploying 2,000 National Guardsmen to address the lawlessness that has been allowed to fester.”
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, that the Defense Department is “mobilizing the National Guard IMMEDIATELY to support federal law enforcement in Los Angeles. And, if violence continues, active duty Marines at Camp Pendleton will also be mobilized – they are on high alert.”
However, Newsom “insisted” during a televised interview on Sunday, June 8, that President Trump “never mentioned sending troops into the city” during their telephonic conversation earlier on Saturday.

“We talked for almost 20 minutes and he barely, this issue never came up… I tried to talk about L.A., he wanted to talk about all these other issues. We had a very decent conversation,” Newsom said during the interview.
“He never once brought up the National Guard. He’s a stone-cold liar… He said he did. Stone. Cold. Liar. Never did,” Newsom added.
He did mention, however, that the conversation he had with Trump was a “civil” one, although adding that he will “never” work for him.
“Was a very civil conversation. I’ve always wanted to approach engagement with the President of the United States in a respectful and responsible way. But there’s no working with the president, there’s only working for him. And I will never work for Donald Trump,” Newsom said.

The protests and unrest in Los Angeles were sparked by large-scale immigration enforcement actions, where ICE agents reportedly arrested at least 44 undocumented individuals.
The raids triggered widespread protests throughout the city, with demonstrators blocking highways, setting vehicles ablaze, and clashing with federal agents. According to reports, protesters targeted self-driving Waymo cars in several instances, setting them on fire.
“By evening, police had issued an unlawful assembly order shutting down several blocks of downtown Los Angeles. Flash bangs echoed out every few seconds into the evening,” reports have mentioned.
In an official letter addressed to Secretary Hegseth on Sunday afternoon, Governor Newsom requested to have the National Guard removed from Los Angeles and returned to his command.
“I have formally requested the Trump Administration rescind their unlawful deployment of troops in Los Angeles county and return them to my command. We didn’t have a problem until Trump got involved. This is a serious breach of state sovereignty — inflaming tensions while pulling resources from where they’re actually needed,” Governor Newsom wrote on X.
It is worth noting that California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced that the state of California had filed a lawsuit challenging the deployment of National Guard troops to Los Angeles.

“We don’t take lightly to the president abusing his authority and unlawfully mobilizing California National Guard troops,” Bonta said in a statement to reporters.
In a Truth Social post on June 9, President Trump stood by his decision to deploy the National Guard in Los Angeles, saying that Governor Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass should be “thankful” to the President.
“We made a great decision in sending the National Guard to deal with the violent, instigated riots in California. If we had not done so, Los Angeles would have been completely obliterated. The very incompetent “Governor,” Gavin Newscum, and “Mayor,” Karen Bass, should be saying, “THANK YOU, PRESIDENT TRUMP, YOU ARE SO WONDERFUL. WE WOULD BE NOTHING WITHOUT YOU, SIR,”” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“Instead, they choose to lie to the People of California and America by saying that we weren’t needed, and that these are “peaceful protests.” Just one look at the pictures and videos of the Violence and Destruction tells you all you have to know. We will always do what is needed to keep our Citizens SAFE, so we can, together, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” the President added.
