Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) has drawn fierce criticism after launching a personal attack against first lady Melania Trump during a House Judiciary Committee hearing on Wednesday.
The Texas Democrat used the hearing to mock the first lady’s modeling career and question her qualifications for receiving an EB-1 visa, commonly known as the “Einstein visa.”
Crockett’s remarks came during discussions about President Trump’s immigration policies when she shifted focus to his family’s visa history.
“Since we’re talking about integrity, I’m confused as to why my Republican colleagues aren’t talking about the lack of integrity when it comes to the president’s family’s visas,” Crockett stated during the hearing.
The congresswoman then targeted Melania Trump directly, disparaging her modeling credentials with pointed remarks about her career achievements.
“Melania, the first lady—a model, and when I say model, I’m not talking Tyra Banks, Cindy Crawford or Naomi Campbell-level—applied for and was given an EB-1 visa,” she said mockingly.
Melania Trump, who was born in Slovenia, relocated to the United States during the 1990s to pursue modeling opportunities.
She successfully obtained an EB-1 visa through the immigration process and later became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2006.
Crockett escalated her attack by questioning Melania Trump’s intelligence and qualifications for the specialized visa category.
“You’re supposed to have some sort of significant achievement, like being awarded a Nobel Peace Prize or a Pulitzer, being an Olympic medalist, or having other sustained extraordinary abilities and success in sciences, arts, education, business, or athletics,” she said.
The Democrat continued her criticism by claiming the first lady lacked the necessary credentials for the visa.
“Last time I checked, the first lady had none of those accolades under her belt,” Crockett added.
She concluded her remarks with a dismissive comment about the visa approval process.
“It doesn’t take an Einstein to see that the math ain’t mathin’ here,” she added.
Social media users quickly responded to Crockett’s comments with widespread condemnation and accusations of jealousy.
Some even dubbed Crockett’s remarks as “evil,” according to New York Post reporting.
“Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) disgracefully attacked Melania Trump on Wednesday for her modeling career and visa. Crockett said Melania wasn’t on the same level as other models and didn’t have the accolades to warrant an Einstein visa. Crockett is jealous,” one user wrote on X.
Another user highlighted Melania Trump’s multilingual abilities in defense of the first lady.
“Can Jasmine Crockett speak 5 Languages like Melania? NO! so she can just close her mouth,” another raged.
Multiple users praised Melania Trump’s character while criticizing Crockett’s approach.
“How dare her compare Melania to those models? Melania has a lot more class in her little finger than Jasmine Crockett has in her whole body!” one person chimed in.
“The First Lady has more class than this trash ever will,” a fourth wrote angrily.

The controversy emerges shortly after President Trump publicly criticized Crockett and her “Squad” colleague Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Trump’s previous comments targeted both congresswomen following their efforts to pursue a third impeachment attempt against him.
The President had suggested Democrats nominate Crockett for president in a social media post that followed a Democratic primary victory in New York.
“After years of being left out in the cold, including suffering one of the Greatest Losses in History, the 2024 Presidential Election, the Democrats should nominate Low IQ Candidate, Jasmine Crockett, for President, and AOC+3 should be, respectively, Vice President, and three High Level Members of the Cabinet,” Trump wrote.
