CHESAPEAKE, VA – An actor known for his role in a popular television series is facing legal troubles in Chesapeake. Bryce Year Gray, recognized for his work on the hit show “Empire,” has been charged with assault and battery, according to local police. The charge was filed by a private citizen.
The alleged incident took place at the Homewood Suites parking lot, where Gray reportedly had a confrontation with an associate, Dustin Wilkins, who also goes by the name “Chosen.” According to a criminal complaint, Wilkins recounted that Gray became aggressive after being reminded he couldn’t leave the hotel without settling his bill. Wilkins claimed he was trying to help Gray, telling him, “You have enough problems. I am trying to save your life.”
Wilkins described the altercation, stating Gray charged at him, delivering a shoulder blow and punches while Wilkins was recording the incident on his phone. Wilkins, in an exclusive interview, shared his perspective on the disagreement, suggesting it might be rooted in Gray’s mental health challenges.
“By sunrise, the situation involved a mental health disorder,” Wilkins said. “He’s not a bad person, but something happened from a mental health aspect. I can’t disclose all the details, but he’s like a brother to me.”
Despite filing charges, Wilkins noted his continued support for Gray. He played a role in securing Gray’s release on bond, emphasizing his commitment to helping his friend navigate the legal process.
Gray is currently out on a $5,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday. The case highlights the complexities of personal relationships and mental health issues intersecting with legal matters.
This incident has drawn attention due to Gray’s public profile and the ongoing discussion about mental health in the entertainment industry.
