BRAZORIA COUNTY, TX – The Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation into a fatal shooting involving its deputies in a wooded area near Highway 288 close to Rochein. The incident unfolded after a high-speed chase with a suspect who crashed his vehicle and fled on foot.
The situation began when a woman alerted authorities, expressing fear as the suspect was reportedly heading to her residence. Upon identifying the suspect, deputies discovered he had two outstanding warrants for assault. They attempted to intercept him by stopping a vehicle matching the suspect’s description, which led to a pursuit.
The chase ended when the suspect crashed into a ditch and escaped into the nearby woods. Deputies pursued him on foot, and during the confrontation, the suspect brandished a knife. In response, at least two deputies discharged their firearms, striking the suspect.
After the shooting, deputies moved the suspect to a safer location to administer emergency medical care. Despite their efforts, the suspect succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The operation was supported by drones and assistance from neighboring law enforcement agencies, ensuring a swift location of the suspect. Fortunately, no deputies were injured during the incident.
In accordance with departmental policy, the two deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave as the investigation continues.
