ANAHEIM, CA – Two people were confirmed dead following a harrowing six-hour standoff at an Anaheim senior living complex last Thursday, when a resident opened fire on the complex’s manager.
The shooting occurred at approximately 3:40 p.m. at the Tyrol Plaza Senior Apartments situated near State College Boulevard and Vermont Avenue. The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, was the complex’s manager.
According to witness accounts, a man living in the complex shot the woman multiple times at point-blank range in the leasing office. Joe Guerrero, a tenant who was present during the incident, recounted, “He just came up to her and shot her four times.” He continued by saying, “I thought he was going to shoot me next, but he just looked at me and took off.”
The shooter subsequently barricaded himself inside his apartment on the complex’s third floor. The building was surrounded by a sizable police force, including SWAT Team, who evacuated several residents. Nearby schools also executed temporary lock-down procedures.
The female victim was quickly transported to a local hospital. However, she succumbed to her injuries after paramedics’ efforts proved futile.
After six hours, the suspect reportedly turned the gun on himself, effectively ending the standoff. The reason behind the fatal act and the nature of the relationship between the suspect and victim are yet to be established.
Residents remained in a state of shock following the ordeal. Guerrero, who moved into the complex about five months earlier, reminisced about the deceased manager, calling her a “nice lady,” and expressed disbelief over the tragic incident.
The investigation into this fatal incident continues.
