The House of Representatives voted 360-58 to pave the way for a total ban of TikTok in the United States.
The bill, if it passes through the Senate and is signed by President Joe Biden, would demand that Chinese company ByteDance divest from TikTok or it would be banned within a year.
Interestingly, the TikTok ban was inserted into a foreign aid package totaling $95 billion for U.S. allies like Ukraine and Israel. Interestingly, this massive nearly $100 billion package includes nothing to address the southern border.
The money will be divided with $26 billion going to Israel, $60.8 billion to Ukraine, and $8 billion to the Indo-Pacific.
Americans are rightly outraged that unfathomable amounts of money are being sent abroad while the nation grapples with severe problems here at home.
It’s no surprise that the TikTok ban hasn’t attracted much attention due to being snuck into this massive aid package. But this entire package tells the average American everything they need to know about Congress’s priorities.
