In October 2022, the CEO of Konnech Corporation was indicted and arrested on suspicion of theft of personal identifying information. Authorities raided the Konnech offices in Lansing, Michigan, where they confiscated computer hard drives and other digital evidence. Eugene Yu, Konnech CEO, was eventually extradited to Los Angeles, where the investigation was initiated.
According to LA county registrar and clerk Dean C. Logan, said Konnech had been awarded a five-year $2.7 million contract for software for poll workers’ schedules, training, payroll, and communications. The LA DA’s office didn’t specify at the time what data had been taken but the DA alleged Konnech had given sensitive data to China.
