On Monday, the liberal world was all abuzz over the fact that Justice Clarence Thomas had missed a day of court.
There was no formal announcement from his office, only Chief Justice Roberts’s mention that Thomas would not be appearing in person.
However, when Thomas did not participate remotely, liberals got their hopes up that something had happened to Thomas, only they would be disappointed.
Remove Him
We all know how anxious the left is to have Thomas removed from the bench.
The man has always been attacked, but those attacks have ramped up since Biden took office to try to pressure Thomas to step down.
So, when Thomas was not on the bench on Monday, the media exploded, speculating about what could have happened to him.
One journalist, Mark Stern from Slate, noted that Thomas had missed time before, but he usually appeared remotely.
He posted, “Context that may or may not be helpful: In the recent past, Justice Thomas phoned into oral arguments when he couldn’t attend in person, allowing him to ask questions remotely.
“He isn’t doing so this time.”
All that hope that Biden would get to replace a conservative justice with a liberal died soon, however, as Thomas returned to the court again on Tuesday.
Thomas did not share why he was away, but trust me, saving a major health crisis, there is no way that Thomas will leave that bench until he has a Republican in office who can replace him with another conservative.
That is what makes the upcoming election even more important, as conservatives have three of the four oldest justices on the court, and all three of them will be well into their 70s by the time the next term is over.
If Trump wins, I would expect both Justices Thomas and Alito to retire at some point, with Roberts possibly doing the same. Although it would not surprise me to see Roberts hold out and retire during a Democrat presidency to help balance out the power of the court.
