Joe Biden’s lies are out of control. The president sparked an international incident last week by implying his uncle was eaten by “cannibals” in New Guinea during World War II.
While speaking at a Pennsylvania war memorial last week, Biden recalled that his uncle Ambrose Finnegan’s plane was “shot down” over New Guinea during heavy fighting. “They never found the body because there used to be—there were a lot of cannibals, for real, in that part of New Guinea,” he said.
The prime minister of Papau New Guinea, a crucial ally in the U.S.-led effort to deter Chinese aggression in the region, took offense at the implication. “President Biden’s remarks may have been a slip of the tongue; however, my country does not deserve to be labeled as such,” Prime Minister James Marape said in a statement.
According to military records, the transport plane Biden’s uncle was traveling on wasn’t even “shot down.” It was deemed to have crashed into the ocean due to engine failure.
It wasn’t the first time Biden, 81, has offered a wildly inaccurate version of history. It won’t be the last.
