Elderly man, 86, violently mugged by suspect now on the run in police-defunded New York City

NEW YORK CITY, NY – The NYPD are investigating an attack and robbery where authorities say that an 86-year-old man was the victim of said crime, which occurred in the East Harlem area earlier in July.

Police say the attack and robbery occurred on July 19th at approximately 8:15 a.m. as the victim was walking down Lexington Avenue, near the corner of East 116th Street.

The unidentified assailant reportedly approached the victim from the rear and restrained his arms. Investigators say that the suspect then forcibly removed the victim’s wallet from his pocket and then fled southbound on Lexington Avenue.

The unnamed elderly victim sustained some bruising from the attack and was treated at an area hospital.

Police described the suspect as a black male with short dreadlocks, last seen wearing black sweatpants, red shoes, and a black long-sleeve shirt with the word “NYC” written on the front.

Anyone with information on the case, the suspect’s identity or whereabouts are urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). Spanish-speaking callers are asked to call 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).

In other disturbing cases involving attacks on the elderly, we at Law Enforcement Today shared a report back in June detailing a viscous attack launched against a 67-year-old woman by an Amazon driver in California.

Here’s that previous report.

_

CASTRO VALLEY, CA- Amazon Prime apparently comes with a side of ass-kicking in its terms of service. At least that’s what happened to  67-year-old woman in Castro Valley, California, who was viciously beaten by an Amazon delivery driver last week.

The beating took place in Alameda County last Thursday after the driver, who is black told the elderly female to “check her white privilege” after she complained about a delayed package sent to her home, The Sun reported.

According to the owner of the apartment complex, Doug Smith, the victim received an alert when the package was delivered and then went to retrieve it when the incident occurred.

KTVU said that the suspect, 21-year-old Itzel Ramirez got into a heated argument with the victim and then suddenly unleashed a torrent of punches to the back of the head and the face of the helpless victim.

The encounter was captured on video from numerous angles. An estimated 10 blows found their mark – but Ramirez claims that she acted in “self-defense”.

KTVU said Ramirez verbally berated the victim prior to the attack and said the victim may have referred to the suspect as a bitch prior to she started beating the victim, who was not named. This was in response to the white privilege comment, and it’s alleged the victim told her she didn’t “need to be a bitch about it.”

The Alameda County Sheriff’s Department said the victim suffered visible injuries as well as a possible broken nose, the New York Post reported.

Smith told KTVU the scene was hard to watch.

“It was frightening to see an Amazon driver do that, somebody we allow onto the property to provide us a service,” he said.

He noted that the victim was too shaken up to speak to the media about the incident.

“I don’t know. I just think that the violence we’re seeing these days is very troubling. I was very pleased to see Sheriff [Gregory] Ahern and his deputies do a quick response,” NBC Bay Area reported.

When the victim went to retrieve the package, Smith said it wasn’t in the lobby when she looked. She then questioned Ramirez, who was standing in the lobby, about the package when the verbal confrontation turned physical. This happened after the victim had waited in the lobby for 15 minutes waiting for the package which never arrived.

The security footage showed Ramirez push the woman up against the front entrance of the lobby and continue to pummel her. The woman was seen hunched over covering her head with her hands in an attempt to ward off the blows.

Ramirez was arrested by authorities and was being held on $100,000 bail, with an arraignment scheduled for Monday. She is charged with two counts of elder abuse and battery involving serious injury.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Ray Kelly said, “We can’t have our delivery drivers or people out there in the community attacking people, punching people in the face.”

For their part, Amazon issued the following statement:

“This (incident) does not reflect the high standards we have for drivers who deliver our packages. We take these matters seriously and this individual is no longer delivering Amazon packages.”

Considering Amazon’s deep pockets, expect a related lawsuit to follow.

In Texas, an illegal immigrant accused of killing at least 18 women in senior living facilities will not be facing the death penalty, according to prosecutors.

Here’s that previous report from earlier in July.

_

DALLAS, TX – Dallas County prosecutors say they will seek life in prison, not the death penalty, for an illegal alien charged with killing 18 elderly North Texas residents.

Billy Chemirmir, 46, is accused of killing at least 18 women who lived at senior living facilities in North Texas and stealing from them. He lived in independent living facilities where detectives say he robbed them of their jewelry and then suffocated them.

The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office has reversed plans to seek the death penalty for the man, who overstayed a visa from Kenya, was never deported, and was able to obtain a green card.

On June  24, Dallas County District Attorney John Creuzot confirmed his office will seek a life sentence instead of the death penalty.

The decision reversed prior indications by the office, including a court filing in 2019 indicating the intention to seek the death penalty in Chemirmir’s case.

The D.A.’s office said it met virtually with family members of the victims back on May 24, 2021, to explain that it would request two jury trials, with the goal of securing two life sentences without the possibility of parole.

Creuzot issued a press statement following a meeting with the families of the victims to announce the decision:

“At that time, it was explained that the Dallas County Criminal District Attorney’s would request two jury trials, with the goal of securing two life sentences without the possibility of parole. If that goal is achieved, this office will ask the court to order that the sentences be served consecutively.

“In effect, there will be no chance for Mr. Chemirmir to die anywhere except in a Texas prison.”

There was no explanation given with the statement as to why the earlier decision to pursue the death penalty was abandoned.

Criminal law attorney Toby Shook told local media that the decision was probably based on money:

“Defense attorneys would file for motions to have an investigator and themselves interview people in Africa, retrieve records in Africa and that would eventually get very, very expensive.

“You ask for lots of money to go to Africa and then if you find mitigation evidence how do you get those witnesses back over to the United States to testify?”

Shook added that it is likely the DA’s plan to have two trials for separate murders to obtain two life sentence verdicts would result in Chemirmir never becoming eligible for parole:

“I think that’s a sound strategy. It gives you two shots, two separate trials to get life without parole, if he’s able to get one reversed you already have him serving life without parole.”

However, the decision has not been accepted by many, including Rep. Jared Patterson (R), who called Creuzot a ”coward” for not seeking the death penalty and warned Dallas County residents to leave the area because it was not safe to live there:

“’Let Em Go’ (Judge Creuzot)  is a COWARD. Billy Chemirmir murdered two dozen elderly Texans but apparently that’s not enough for the liberal (Dallas County DA) to pursue the death penalty. Memo to all (Dallas County) residents: You’re not safe! Get out while you can!”

Patterson told the Dallas Morning News:

“It’s a pattern we’re seeing in Dallas of lawlessness being acceptable. If you are going to murder 18 to 24 people and not get the death penalty, then what are we doing?”

Some Angel families, a term used to document victims killed by undocumented immigrants in the United States, have called the decision upsetting.

Robert MacPhee, whose mother, Carolyn MacPhee, was killed by Chemirmir in her home in Plano in December 2017, said Creuzot’s decision was not a surprise to him:

“He deserves the death penalty. If he doesn’t deserve it, gosh, I don’t know who else does.”

Chemirmir smothered the elderly victims and took jewelry and other valuables from their apartments. Many of the deaths were initially marked as being of natural causes because smothering is difficult to detect as a cause of death.

After a Plano woman survived an attack at Preston Place Retirement Community on March 19, 2018, the same day another body was found across the hall, police identified Chemirmir as a suspect through suspicious person and vehicle reports from at least three senior living communities, according to authorities.

Chemirmir was charged with capital murder in that death and was later charged with attempted murder of a Frisco woman and a Plano woman.

After the indictment in the Harris case, capital murder indictments in 11 other deaths were issued in May 2019.

Breitbart News exclusively reported that Chemirmir first arrived in the U.S. on a B-2 tourist visa in July 2003. When he overstayed his visa, Chemirmir was able to use legal loopholes in the immigration system to obtain a green card after marrying a legal citizen.

The serial killer was granted a green card in 2007 despite being an illegal alien and having a criminal record including drunk driving, trespassing, assault, and obstructing a police officer.
