President Biden to NC to Help Governor Cooper Push Vaccine

RALEIGH – The vaccine lottery didn’t really provide the desired bump in vaccine numbers, the Old North State is stuck around 52 percent fully vaccinated, and so Governor Roy Cooper has President Joe Biden stumbling into North Carolina to yell at that remaining 45 percent to comply. After all, it wasn’t that long ago that both Cooper and Biden suggested we couldn’t even have so much as a backyard pig-cookin’ unless we hit certain arbitrary rates of vaccination, and we’re not there.

Cue Uncle Joe.

The White House announced Sunday that Biden will be visiting Raleigh Thursday to hawk COVID vaccinations.

Cooper, who put a two-thirds vaccinated target on North Carolinians’ backs is facing resistance close to the goal line, and so Biden will check in for his “National Month of Action,” also aiming for his own arbitrary goal of 70 percent of adults at least partially vaccinated by July 4.

Though, Biden isn’t exactly a closer these days, judging by recent appearances on the world stage.

Were he to tour a nursing home while here, he might just be admitted for care.

Despite the push, the likelihood that vaccination rates make meaningful headway seems unlikely. Even with Sleepy Joe waving the pom-poms. It’s a simple thought process: A lot of people have already had the virus and the associated natural immunity, a lot of others may find themselves in the vast majority of people not at serious risk from COVID, and not lottery of Biden appearances are going to totally shift their thinking.

The question for Cooper is not longer whether or not he’ll hit his vaccination goal by XX date; they might start asking if they’ll ever hit it at all.
