Poll shows Biden under 50 percent approval rating for the first time

Though President Joe Biden continues to enjoy fawning support from a bulk of the corporate mainstream media, a shocking new poll suggests that his approval rating among American voters has taken a bit of a tumble, according to the Daily Caller

A Monmouth University survey released on Wednesday revealed that Biden garnered an approval rating number under 50% for the first time since he entered the White House.

Rather than being a one-off survey result, the low number appears to suggest a downward trend in the president’s approval rating, with dissatisfaction presumably building over previous months with regard to how he’s handled some of his first major tests as the U.S. president.

The poll found that Biden’s May approval number came in at 48%, marking a massive, six-point drop from his numbers just a month prior, which registered at 54% in the same survey.

Biden falling with independents, Democrats

What’s more, his disapproval rating has inched up during the same time frame, growing from 41% in April to 43% in May.

Interestingly, Biden seems to have made some gains with Republicans, with his approval among GOP voters increasing from 11% to 19%.

However, that slight improvement was more than offset by falling numbers from independent voters and, unfortunately for the new president, members of his own party.

Thirty-six percent of independents now approve of Biden’s job performance, representing a drop of 11 points from the month prior. Registered Democrats seem less enthused as well, as those who gave the president high marks dropped to 86% from 95% in the previous month.

Some policies poll better than he does

In an ABC News report, the outlet indicated that most previous U.S. presidents have registered significantly higher approval ratings at this point in their term, with the average number coming in at 66%. Interestingly, the Monmouth survey found that some of Biden’s policies score far better among Americans than he does personally.

For example, 60% of participants said that they approved of the president’s American Rescue Plan, a COVID-19 stimulus bill signed into law earlier this year.

Meanwhile, 68% are in favor of the proposed American Jobs Plan, while another 61% expressed support for the president’s American Families Plan.

Public perception of Biden might have been negatively impacted by a series of embarrassing gaffes during last week’s Group of Seven (G-7) summit in the United Kingdom, which has even sparked some, such as former White House physician Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX), to call into question the status of Biden’s cognitive health, according to the Washington Post.
