About two weeks ago, Donald Trump was asked if he would be testifying in the New York hush-money case.
Trump was adamant that he would be testifying and exposing the truth.
Former White House counsel John Dean, however, does not believe that will be the case.
Not Happening
Dean seems to think that Trump was doing nothing more than posturing for his supporters.
Trump loves to play off that tough-guy image, so when he was asked about testifying before, he stated, “I’m testifying. I tell the truth.
“I mean, all I can do is tell the truth. And the truth is that there’s no case. They have no case.”
Dean, who served during the Nixon administration, believes that would be unwise for Trump to do.
He explained, “He is not a good witness. He’s — the few times he’s been on the stand and in depositions at some length, we can see he’s not a good witness.
“So, this is a lot of bravado for his base, because there are, obviously, political implications of great dimension for him, in this trial and the others.”
There are two reasons that Trump is not a good witness.
First, he likes to stretch the truth, and if he gets caught doing that on the stand it’s perjury.
Second, it is quite easy to get under Trump’s skin, and if prosecutors start poking him effectively, who knows what will come out of Trump’s mouth.
There is actually a third reason that Trump should not testify, which is because Judge Merchan has already approved a Bragg motion to bring up evidence from other cases to discredit Trump.
This is all a recipe for disaster, so please, Mr. Trump… stay behind the defense desk and let your attorneys do their thing.
As a businessman, you can appreciate the low reward here for a very high-risk venture.
