According to reports, 56-year-old John Wesley Moore was arrested for the fatal shooting of a teenage boy that occurred within the 1700 block of Edward Avenue during the evening of May 5th.
Reportedly, Moore had discovered the boy inside of his daughter’s bedroom during the evening of May 5th and a fight had broken out between the two.
Investigators spoke with Moore’s fiancé, who allegedly told police that Moore shot at the boy after the boy left the house and ran down the street. Police say that the victim, whose name has not been released by officials, and Moore are familiar with each other.
The victim’s sister reportedly dropped the teen off during the afternoon of May 5th at a home located on the same street where the fatal shooting took place.
Moore is currently being held in custody under a $250,000 bond for a charge of second-degree murder.
In a similar case, where the father wasn’t charged, a man reportedly non-fatally shot the ex-boyfriend of his daughter who had reportedly followed her home while in violation of a restraining order.
Here’s that previous report from January.
HOUSTON, TX – A rather interesting case is being investigated in Houston, which authorities say involves a father who non-fatally shot his daughter’s ex-boyfriend after the ex had allegedly followed her home in defiance of a restraining order.
— Stephanie Simmons (@StephKHOU) January 14, 2021
According to police, the incident was said to have happened at sometime slightly before 11:00 p.m. on January 13th in the city’s south side.
The daughter of the alleged shooter was purportedly being followed by her ex-boyfriend as she was driving, and so the woman reportedly decided to drive to her parents’ home.
By the time the woman had pulled into her parents’ driveway, her ex-boyfriend was said to have parked behind her vehicle – effectively blocking her in.
Houston Police said that the ex-boyfriend was allegedly yelling profanities at the daughter, but there was no indication that he’d physically assaulted her during that interaction.
When this allegedly occurred, the girl’s father was reported as having come outside of his home while carrying a gun. According to officials, the father alleged that his daughter’s ex-boyfriend had made some sort of threatening move, prompting him to shoot the man in the hip.

From there, the ex-boyfriend was said to have made his way into his vehicle and fled from the scene and called for an ambulance to assist him at Airport and Cullen.
Reportedly the shot individual was treated for the wound on his hip, but not much other detail has been afforded.
HPD officials say that the suspect may being getting charged for violation of a protective order, but those charges have not been doled out yet as of this time.
Furthermore, no charges have been filed toward the father, but the investigation into the incident is still ongoing.

In other cases involving gun-toting fathers, a man in Louisiana was said to have successfully thwarted an attempted armed home invasion – by shooting all the suspects allegedly trying to intrude.
Here’s that previous report from earlier in December.
LACOMBE, LA – A home invasion that occurred in early December resulted in a 4-year-old girl being shot and the four suspects being shot by the girl’s father, two of which died.
The incident occurred on December 8th at approximately 10:00 a.m., when officials say that four armed intruders forced their way into a home located along Palmer Drive.

While the targeting of the home by the suspects involved is still unclear, the father of the home had gotten into a gun battle with the armed intruders. His 4-year-old daughter was reportedly struck by a bullet in the crossfire.
During the altercation, reportedly all four of the suspects were shot by the homeowner.
According to officials, two of the suspects, identified as 21-year-old Justin Hill and 25-year-old Renard Causey Jr., died from the sustained gunshot wounds.

Whereas as the remaining two suspects, identified as 43-year-old Renard Causey Sr. and 22-year-old Jason LeBlanc, were transported to a local hospital and treated for their injuries.
Causey and LeBlanc were eventually released from the hospital and booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail.
Both of the two remaining suspects have been charged with first-degree murder, seemingly stemming from the deaths of the other two suspects allegedly involved in the home invasion.
Additional charges of armed robbery and home invasion are expected to be later applied to Causey and LeBlanc.
As for the young girl injured during the fray, her family says that she’s expected to fully recover from her sustained injuries.
St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith commented on the response time by first responders in the matter, crediting said fast response in ensuring all suspects involved were tended to properly:
“While it is always tragic anytime there is a loss of life, I am pleased that due to the rapid response time of our deputies; all parties that were involved in this isolated incident have been accounted for.”
Police have not shared details on exactly how many shots were fired between the two parties. However, the homeowner who defended himself and his family is reportedly not facing any charges at this time.
This is an ongoing investigation.
