On Thursday, the Democrat-controlled House passed a bill to make Washington, DC the 51st state and to grant its more than 700,000 residents full representation in Congress. Forget the fact that the US Constitution expressly forbids such a move, the Democrats have now proven that they do not subscribe to the Constitution when comes to gaining power.
The only reason the Democrats are doing this is to gain power. If they are successful in making DC a state, the Democrats would automatically gain two senators and another member in the House, increasing their majorities. They would also gain another Democrat governor and Democrat legislators, which is important for elections and other matters.
Article I, Section 8, Clause 17, expressly says that the federal government shall be run inside a “District” with the “Cession” of particular states.
“To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the Acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of Government of the United States, and to exercise like Authority over all Places purchased by the Consent of the Legislature of the State in which the Same shall be, for the Erection of Forts, Magazines, Arsenals, dock-Yards, and other needful Buildings;–And”
The reason for this is that the Founders wanted representatives from all states to come together in a neutral District so that they call all be on equal footing to do the nation’s business.
In a party-line vote of 216 to 208 with all Republicans rejecting bill HR-51, the Democrats passed yet another attack on our nation’s Constitutional republic. Someone told President Biden that he supports the bill, but unless they are doing this as an Amendment to the Constitution, they shouldn’t even take it up in the US Senate. But mark my words, the Democrats will work hard to find a way to get it through. So far, Democrats have lied about the Constitutional process and they have already played the race card.
Debate over the bill got pretty heated on the floor of the House on Thursday when Representative Mondair Jones (D-NY) accused Republicans against the bill as being so because the District isn’t white enough to qualify for self-rule.
“I have had enough of my colleagues’ racist insinuations that somehow that people of Washington, D.C., are incapable or even unworthy of our democracy,” Jones said in a speech in the House that drew anger from Republicans. “One Senate Republican said that DC wouldn’t be a ‘well-rounded, working-class state.’ I had no idea there were so many syllables in the word White.”
According to the Census, DC is split between white and black residents 46 percent each.
Jones added, “One of my House Republican colleagues said that DC shouldn’t be a state because the district doesn’t have a landfill. My goodness, with all the racist trash my colleagues have brought to this debate, I can see why they’re worried about having a place to put it.”

That is possibly the most despicable thing I have ever heard come from the floor of the House of Representatives. This clown from New York called Republicans racist for being against the bill. If nothing else, his words have to be in violation of the House Code of Official Conduct.
Rule #1: A Member, Delegate, Resident Commissioner, officer, or employee of the House shall behave at all times in a manner that shall reflect creditably on the House.
How is calling other members of the House racists reflecting credibility on the House?
House Republicans immediately called for Jones’ remarks to be struck, and the freshman Democrat ultimately agreed to withdraw his statements.
Prior to that set of asinine comments by Jones, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) stupidly cheered the statehood passage as a “momentous day for American democracy.”
The Democrats really are the most powerful ignoramuses on the planet. They argued that statehood is a matter of civil rights and they brought up taxation of DC residents not having representation. Well, they live in a District that was designed inside our Constitution for the purpose of being a neutral area for representatives of states to meet and conduct government business. They can move out of DC if they so choose. The answer isn’t to piss on the Constitution and then tell us it’s raining.
“Statehood for the District of Columbia is about showing respect for our democracy,” Pelosi said.
“It’s well past the time to grant them the rights that they have been fighting for and that they deserve,” she added.
Nancy Pelosi is the Dunning Kruger of the federal government. She knows so very little about America and our Constitutional system and yet she speaks as an authority.
I think Representative James Comer (R-KY) summed it up best when he said, “Let’s be clear what HR-51 is all about: It’s about Democrats adding two new progressive US senators to push a radical agenda championed by the Squad to reshape America into the socialist utopia they always talk about.”
