Neocon Nimrata Nikki Haley Won’t Run for President in 2024 If Trump Does

Neoconservative darling Nimrata Nikki Haley said on Monday that she would not run in 2024 if President Trump decided to run for a second term.

Haley spoke to the press following a tour of South Carolina State University campus, where the Associated Press’s Meg Kinnard asked Haley if President Trump were to run for a second term in 2024 if she would support him. “Yes,” Haley replied. “I would not run if President Trump ran,” she added, saying that she would “talk to him about it.”

“That’s something that we would have a conversation about at some point if that decision is something that would have to be made,” Haley continued:

I had a great working relationship with him [as Ambassador to the United Nations]. I appreciated the way he let me do my job. I thought we did some fantastically great foreign policy things together, and look, I just want to keep building on what we accomplished and not watch it get torn down.

When asked when was the last time she had spoken to President Trump, Haley confirmed that she had not spoken to him since at least the protests at the Capitol on January 6th, only confirming that it was some time before then, but after the election. This was unsurprising, as Haley said in an interview with left-leaning site Politico in February that President Trump had “let us down,” and had led the country “down a path he shouldn’t have,” saying that America shouldn’t have “followed him [or] listened to him]”:

Haley attacked President Trump for daring to condemn former Vice President Mike Pence for not fighting hard against the mass electoral fraud seen in November’s elections… “When I tell you I’m angry, it’s an understatement,” Haley said. “I am so disappointed in the fact that [despite] the loyalty and friendship he had with Mike Pence, that he would do that to him,” she added, saying she was “disgusted” with President Trump… She added that he has “a big bully pulpit,” and that both his words and his actions “since Election Day will be judged harshly by history.”

After making these disparaging comments, President Trump refused to meet with Haley at his home in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, despite her requests for a sit-down. Haley flipped back to publicly supporting President Trump in March. “Strong speech by President Trump about the winning policies of his administration,” wrote Haley, only weeks after saying Republicans should not have followed those policies or entertained his administration.

Haley’s Monday announcement regarding a potential Trump 2024 run may now be the final death-blow for the neoconservatives who wanted her as the “principled conservative” candidate for President. Despite the constant fawning from the establishment wing of the GOP, she has never been popular with the party base, with the most recent CPAC 2021 straw poll suggesting that only an embarassingly low 3% of attendees wished to see her as the 2024 candidate.
