Tiger Woods Undergoes Surgery After Car Crash

Golf icon Tiger Woods was hospitalized Tuesday after being involved in a car accident on the Palos Verdes Peninsula in Los Angeles County, according to police.

The crash occurred at 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday.

Woods’ agent, Mark Steinberg, said he suffered “multiple” leg injuries and is undergoing surgery.

“He is currently in surgery, and we thank you for your privacy and support,” Steinberg told Golf Digest.

Aerial footage by the local station KTLA showed a car on its side with the front heavily damaged. Initial reports, including a statement by the Los Angeles County Sheriffs, say Woods was rescued using the “jaws of life,” but Capt. James Powers later said that report was incorrect.

Woods was the only passenger in the car at the time of the accident.

“On February 23, 2021, at approximately 7:12 AM, LASD responded to a single vehicle roll-over traffic collision on the border of Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes,” officials said, according to TMZ.

“The vehicle was traveling northbound on Hawthorne Boulevard, at Blackhorse Road, when it crashed. The vehicle sustained major damage.”

“The driver and sole occupant was identified as PGA golfer, Eldrick ‘Tiger’ Woods,” officials added. Mr. Woods was extricated from the wreck with the ‘jaws of life’ by Los Angeles County firefighters and paramedics, then transported to a local hospital by ambulance for his injuries.”

It was not immediately clear what caused the accident.

In May of 2019, at a time when other athletes were making headlines for refusing to visit the White House, Tiger Woods received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from his friend and former golf partner, President Trump. When asked about his views on the president, Woods said in an interview, “He’s the president of the United States. You have to respect the office. No matter who is in the office, you may like, dislike personality or the politics, but we all must respect the office.”

Jason Miller tweeted on behalf of President Trump Tuesday.

The day before the accident, Woods was golfing with a number of celebrities, including David Spade, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Dwyane Wade.
