After 30 people were arrested for meth outside the downtown Multnomah Library recently, the City of Portland is going bold. KATU reports that the City is decorating trees with lights around the library to ward of meth addicts, vandals and vagrants.
This reminds us of when Portland played classical music at transit stops to ward off criminals.
This also reminds us of when Portland closed bottle redemption centers to ward of drug users.
It may produce some temporary visual differences and possible results, but the crime just moves down the block.
